No chance...world's morol's security is at stake for a 21-year Muslim boy :coffee: .

You know, it's not beyond belief that he could go to court, plead innocent, win his case, and walk out a free man. These entrapment cases are often very difficult for the FBI to pull off successfully.

Apparently he was normal in Bangladesh but was radicalized in USA!!!! fcuking USA!!!!

He is going to spend the rest of his life in a super max prison like Fazil Shazad. I don't know if he has any sort of conception of what lies ahead of him. And the FBI is going to Bangladesh to question his family, friends etc. They will investigate every place he has ever been. And the government of Bangladesh is going to feel the effects of this by the U.S. government.

And this is another guy who wants to give a bad name for Islam.

Yeah...they'll go to honeymoon asking for your permission :cheesy:. Do you think it's a mature line by you?

It has more validity than the weird claim by the usual madhat that CIA needs RAW's help to frame a bunch of religious nutheads residing in the US. That asad guy comes up with real cuckoo stuff and the other desperate cuckoos lap it up. The onus of maturity and proof is on the person making fantastic claims. A fatwa by asad is no proof. Why are you so weak at this basic stuff?

I have several Bangladeshi friends and people mistaking Bangladesh for a Fruit or a Dish is among their most common experiences when asking people in the West what Bangladesh is.

The problem derives from the "Desh" part which sounds like "Dish" and hence a natural human tendency to mistake it for food.

Where as Pakistan has the "Stan" in the end which is easier to identify it as a country.

And lastly, Bangladesh is very tiny and surrounded on 3 sides by India and thus it is very hard for people to find it on a map.

I am just stating the truth and real life experiences of people in relation to Bangladesh.

And just watch, as News Media reports on this Bengali Terrorist, they will have to show a map on the side bar to inform the viewers where Bangladesh is. :D

Bangladesh is standing on its size be it tiny or big...look at yours first, it has a shrinking tendency...and who knows what's gonna happen next :undecided:.

Man Is Charged With Plotting to Bomb Federal Reserve Bank in Manhattan

By MOSI SECRET and WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM

Published: October 17, 2012

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn charged a 21-year-old Bangladeshi man with conspiring to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, saying he tried to remotely detonate what he believed was a 1,000-pound bomb in a van he parked outside the building in Lower Manhattan on Wednesday.

Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis

Michael Appleton for The New York Times

Police officers outside the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in Lower Manhattan, hours after a man tried to detonate what he believed was a bomb.

But the entire plot played out under the surveillance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York Police Department as part of an elaborate sting operation, according tocourt papers.
The man, Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, who arrived in the United States in January on a student visa, tried to make contacts and recruit people to form a terrorist cell to help him carry out an attack, according to a criminal complaint in the case. But one of these recruits was an F.B.I. informer, who later introduced him to an undercover F.B.I. agent who helped him with the plot.
In addition, the complaint said, Mr. Nafis spoke of a desire to “attack and kill” a high-ranking government official. A senior law enforcement official said Wednesday night that the official was President Obama, but that Mr. Nafis’s desire never got past the talking stage.
Mr. Nafis was charged with conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction and providing material support to Al Qaeda. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Mr. Nafis arrived at Federal District Court in Brooklyn, looking boyish despite his trim beard. He spoke quietly when answering the questions of the magistrate judge, Roanne L. Mann.
The case appears to be the latest to fit a model in which, in the process of flushing out people they believe present a risk of terrorism, federal law enforcement officials have played the role of enabler. Agents and informers have provided suspects with encouragement, guidance, money and even, the subjects of the sting operations are led to believe, the materials needed to carry out an attack. Though these operations have almost always held up in court, they have come under increasing criticism from those who believe that many of the subjects, even some who openly espoused violence, would have been unable to execute such plots without substantial assistance from the government.
Both F.B.I. leaders and federal prosecutors have defended the approach as valuable in finding and stopping people predisposed to commit terrorism.
In a prominent case in 2009, several men, urged by an unusually persistent government informer, planted what they believed to be homemade bombs in front of synagogues in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Four men were convicted, but the judge who oversaw the trial also criticized the law enforcement agents who helped push the plot forward: “The government made them terrorists.”
The court papers describe Mr. Nafis as a man of persistence, who wanted to be respected by Al Qaeda leaders.
The undercover agent began meeting with Mr. Nafis in July, first in Central Park and later in hotels in Queens, secretly recording Mr. Nafis’s statements. Mr. Nafis had grand but vague plans, according to the indictment. “I don’t want something that’s like, small. I just want something big,” he said, according to the complaint. “Very, very, very, very big, that will shake the whole country.”
He settled on the financial district as a target, hoping to shake the American economy. The original plan was for a suicide mission but that changed when Mr. Nafis said he wanted to go home to Bangladesh first to put his affairs in order. The undercover agent told Mr. Nafis that he could use a remote-control device, so that he could stage the attack and then return to Bangladesh.
On Wednesday morning, they drove to a warehouse and assembled the fake bomb, placing supposedly explosive material in trash bins they had bought, then putting the bins in a van, according to the complaint. They assembled a fake detonator that was to be triggered by a cellphone and drove to the fortresslike Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the largest bank structure in the world when it was completed in 1924, about two blocks from Wall Street.
Mr. Nafis and the undercover agent parked the van outside the bank and walked to a nearby hotel, where Mr. Nafis recorded a video statement addressed to the American people, which he planned to publicize after the attack. In the statement, he said, “We will not stop until we attain victory or martyrdom.”
Then he tried again and again to detonate the bomb, dialing the cellphone repeatedly until agents arrested him.

A version of this article appeared in print on October 18, 2012, on page A26 of the New York edition with the headline: Man Is Charged With Plotting to Bomb Federal Reserve Bank in Manhattan.

Some of us, including I, have been feeling that this boy, not yet matured, was targeted by FBI for his regular observance of Islamic rituals. FBI then lured and encouraged him into this project.

Well based on report of Prothom-Alo his family claimed that some group may have trapped him into this case. His father further claimed that he did not know how to drive nor had any driving license in Bangladesh or USA then how come he went to the spot driving a van. He asked Foreign Minister to intervene in the case and want more explanation and want to contact the accused person. His family members were saying his facebook page have been restricted which they can not access and one fake page was opened in his name saying he is mentally ill terrorist.

No, it's called being informed.

Fearing recruitment, India restricts contacts with CIA

New Delhi, July 23, 2012, IANS:

Fearing that the CIA might use counter-terrorism meetings to recruit Indian intelligence operatives, New Delhi has restricted agency-to-agency contacts with Washington, says a new book.

Scholar Prem Mahadevan says that unlike the 1970s when India was a virtual socialist state, the hunger for government jobs has fallen considerably since the Indian economy opened up in 1991.

"Today, middle-ranking IB (Intelligence Bureau) and RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) officers are vulnerable to enticement by well-funded foreign intelligence agencies - a factor which has constrained counter-terrorism cooperation post 9/11."

Mahadevan's book, "The Politics of Counterterrorism in India" (I.B. Tauris), says the fears are not altogether unfounded.

It reveals that since 2001, there have been at least two cases of penetration of RAW by the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

"Also, at least nine RAW officers have gone abroad without leave since the agency's creation in 1968. Most defected while posted in Western Europe or North America, in pursuit of a more comfortable lifestyle.

"Subsequent investigations revealed that they had been recruited by Western intelligence agencies prior to their defection and had functioned as agents in place for some time."

The book says that particularly damaging was the defection of Sikander Lal Malik, a personal aide to RAW chief Rameshwar Nath Kao.

"Malik defected during the 1970s while posted to the US and is alleged to have taken extremely sensitive information with him."

Although Indian intelligence agencies have committed blunders, the book says, they are also responsible for some spectacular successes.

Despite official sympathy for the Palestinian cause, the agencies prevented anti-Israeli attacks on Indian soil that became common in Europe in the 1970s.

And in the years after the Iranian revolution of 1979, the IB and RAW together rounded up and deported dozens of Iranian and Iraqi terrorists intent on killing each other in India.

The IB, it says, "deserves credit for its successes in neturalising the threat from foreign intelligence agencies".

It says RAW once tapped the telephone of then Pakistan Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto "but the agency could only hear his end of the conversation and had to guess what the other party was saying".

The book, however, says infiltrating into jehadi networks has become nearly impossible because of the very low number of Muslims in the Indian intelligence.

"The RAW does not have a single Muslim in its 10,000-strong manpower pool while the IB has a small number of Muslims.

"These operatives did a sterling job of raising new informer networks in Jammu and Kashmir during the 1990s... Despite their performance, the IB and RAW remain averse to employing Muslims, preferring to invest in technical collection."

Contrary to public knowledge, Indian intelligence agencies have faced budget cuts, the book says.

The RAW budget was slashed by 10 percent when P.V. Narasimha Rao was prime minister, denying it two badly needed reconnaissance aircraft. Also during Rao's term, a further 20 percent cut hit intelligence operations.

The book accuses then prime minister Morarji Desai of seriously damaging RAW because of his allergy to his predecessor Indira Gandhi, who founded the agency. Desai, it says, forced some of RAW's "most distinguished officers" into retirement, forced it to stop hiring new recruits, cut its strength by a third, and shut down its offices in Jaipur and Chandigarh.

Because of Desai, RAW's agent networks inside Pakistan, including those in Pakistani Kashmir, were deactivated "and were never rebuilt".

"During a conversation with the Pakistani president in 1978, he let slip that RAW had penetrated the Pakistani nuclear plant at Kahuta. The Indian agent on-site was identified and eliminated."

Considering the history of the CIA in South Asia, this report does make sense. Apart from the 'no Muslims serve RAW' part. They do and stationed in various Middle Eastern countries.

Well based on report of Prothom-Alo his family claimed that some group may have trapped him into this case. Saw the kid, really don't seems to be caring much about Save Islam cause, seems pretty educated and modern to me, not sure if he has been set up or he really has done this act

We use the word educated too liberally. There can be nothing educated about a person who probably thinks osama was framed and considers him a hero and then tries to plant a giant bomb to kill bundreds of civilians, only for other 'educated' people now to think he was framed :hitwall:
