Bangladesh to receive final surplus UK C-130J airlifter in March

From what i understand and guys its only a say so from one person who i trust to have accurately told me what he has heard. I am not in a position to confirm anything so am reserving my judgement.

From what i understand these will be new. As others have pointed out these will then need to be after supplying the mideast clients. Latest trance would make sense if BD is looking at a full maintenance package, pilot training etc so BAF has a long term view and such would conclude there will be some lead time before we see them in BD skies.

In another thread WAZ pointed out there are no old EFT for sale. With F35 coming online maybe RAF can start to reduce some of its current EFT numbers. All generation 1 EFT have been upgraded and are meteor capable.

Lets wait and see how things pan out. Old or new EFT with meteor must be the goal to check IAF raffles.

Hopefully these are new EFT in BD colours coming in a few years whilst BAF move to finalise couple of sqd of J10s.

1sqd EFT, 2 sqd J10 along with half a sqd of migs and 2.5 sqd of F7s and 2 sqd of Yaks and other oddball assortments I guess will sort of fullfil the BAF forces goal (with some streaching of the imagination regarding 10 sqd). Anyhow all conjecture until we hear something officially.

Retire the Migs.....

1 sqd Eurofighter (16)

2 sqd F-10CE (32)

2 sqd F-7BG/BGI (31)

2 sqd Yak-130 (13-?)

Not bad......

Yes the MiGs need to be put out of service. They are a waste money and resources at this point. That half sqd is a serious pain in the arse.
Personally I think MiG-29 is a beauty and as you may know beauties are high maintenance and also less effective! :cheesy:

Mugs will be ran into end of lifespan, we have run them long enough for them to not be put out of service at this point

. .
What will Bangladesh use them for? To transport palla fish?

Transport aid to failed to states in the neighbourhood especially the ones which are messed up enough to be run by their own intelligence agency.

You see we care for everybody, even for the most ungrateful ones.

I have just done a rough calculation about how much it would cost for 16 Euro-fighters and it works out to be 4.5 billion US dollars, by using the roughly 6.6 billion US dollar deal for 24 Qatari Euro-fighters back in 2018.

There is almost ZERO chance that this will happen within the BD total defence budget of 4.5-5 billion US dollars when arms imports are taken into account.

For a Western option, BD only really had two options that it could afford - Gripen E(although still a stretch) or F-16. The Gripen was knocked out as soon as US said publicly that it wants BD to buy US weapons. The BD government responded by saying that US weapons are too expensive for BD!

Now we are being led to believe that a cash-strapped BD government that publicly said it could not buy much cheaper US F-16s being interested in brand new Euro-fighters? Nope if BD has brought Western the chances are that it will be refurbished US F-16 Block 50/52 with AIM-120C-7 missiles. US would probably want only around 30 million US dollars per plane. Also we need to take into account that European munitions such as Meteor(3 million US dollars each) are more expensive than US munitions like AIM-120C-7(2 million US dollars each) that BD is likely to be offered - aware that Meteor is a much better missile than AIM-120C-7.

My money is on refurbished F-16 Block 50/52 with AIM-120C-7 as the BVR missile if Western chosen - this should be enough to take on Mig-29, JF-17 Block 2 and SU-30SM that Myanmar has.

Your logic can not be faulted. Lets see how it pans out. All i would say with F35 coming online and with the need to keep EFT production line open there maybe an opportunity for BD to pick up old or even new EFT on the cheap compared to others.

EFT also probably wants to sell beyond the arabs to developing world and given that it is no longer cutting edge the prices might be reduced.

Anyhow its all smoke without fire at the moment. One correction meteors cost £2m a piece......much cheaper when bought in bulk.... probably around £250m or even less for lets say 160 missiles.... infact price probably even less that £200m.

Meteor will be more expensive than AIM-120C-7 as it is a much more advanced missile and better. AIM-120C-7 is ample firepower to hit MAF planes like Mig-29.JF-17 Block 2 and SU-30SM.

As for buying old Euro-fighters, that is out of the question as the UK needs all the fighter aircraft it can get it's hands on. Those 48 F-35Bs will now not all arrive in UK till 2024/2025 and will not even be enough to equip the 2 carriers which should each carry 36 F-35Bs in war scenario.

Euro-fighter still has 28(Kuwait) + 24(Qatar) orders and so there is many more years of production left. There will of course be more planes ordered to replace ones that have crashed etc by the partner nations and other operators like Saudi. Euro-fighter production is secure till mid-2020s with current orders and attrition replacements.

An order of just 16 from BD is nowhere near enough for any appreciable discount to make any difference - we are looking at more than 100 million dollars per plane and it is really expensive to run with two engines.

A Euro-fighter fleet would force BD to raise defence spending from current 1.5 to around 2% of GDP - something that the BD government has shown no willingness to do.

Anyway by the 2030s Rafales and Eurofighters would become outdated with the introduction of 5th generation planes for export from China and Turkey and so buying refurbished Block 50/52 planes from USA with 10/15 year service life may be a blessing in disguise. BAF can make do with F-16 Block 50/52 and J-10C for this decade before introducing it's first 5th gen fighter in the 2030s.
