If Bangladesh becomes an energy charter member, it will get assistance in investment, energy efficiency issues, sharing of experience, green fund and energy related dispute regulations

Bangladesh will join as a member of the International Energy Charter soon to get cooperation in the energy sector, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said.

The International Energy Charter is a declaration of political intention aiming at strengthening energy cooperation between the signatory states, which does not bear any legally binding obligation or financial commitment.

Bangladesh has already completed all tasks to become a member, the state minister said after a courtesy meeting with Secretary General of International Energy Charter Dr Urban Rusnak in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on January 13, said in a press release form Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources yesterday.

The state minister went to UAE to attend the 8th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency where he met Urban Rusnak on the inauguration day.

If Bangladesh becomes an energy charter member, it will get assistance in investment, energy efficiency issues, sharing of experience, green fund and energy related dispute regulations.

Bangladesh has already become a signatory in the Energy Charter in 2015.

During the meeting, Coordinator of Knowledge Center of Energy Charter Dr Marat Terterov and UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Muhammad Imran were present.
