SAARC should take up the issue of Kashmir and seek an immediate plebiscite for independence since the people of the province must officially accept the accession to India which they have never done. If it had been a merger with India then no plebiscite would be required.

UN keeps waffling about this matter, and SAARC is gonna do something about it? You really think they can resolve it?

In a civilized western country, the opposition opinion is regarded as almost the opinion of the country, if not of the ruling Party. BNP has the same status in BD. I am sure this opposition gesture has not gone unnoticed by the Indian political establishment. Only they know the true meaning of the stance taken by our opposition. They must be very unhappy and angry with this.

I personally support this stance and I hope it will be also an issue in the next general election. When more than 10 million Muslims are put into a barbed cage, a Muslim country's population cannot keep silent forever. It was a taboo in BD not to discuss Kashmir. But, now, at last, it has been removed. Today or tomorrow, BD govt will have to speak clearly about Kashmir.

Why do you think some political figures abroad mention "Kashmiri struggle for independence"? Every now and then some British Asian MP of Pakistani origin also does the same in UK. It is not meant to force India's hand but to please domestic constituents. Through the years countries like USA (in Nixon years) and China have sided with Pakistan and put pressure on India on Kashmir - as if Bangladesh doing so even OFFICIALLY is going to affect India. It might win the BNP some more votes though.

First of all the figure is around 20m, not 200m, but of course the official Bangladeshi stance has been 0.

I will tell you from my first hand experience with no offence intended to fellow Bangladeshis (the sane ones). The local house cooks, the neighborhood rickshaw wallahs, the house maid and the tailors were mostly immigrants from Bangladesh ... It is just that our govt is tolerant of these people and has not taken any actions evicting them out of our country and by your attitude it looks like it needs to be pushed forward on the list of items.

If India has to hold on to the province by force then it clearly does not have the support of ordinary Kashmiris and so they should be allowed to choose what they want. This is a great concern for all South Asians and SAARC should cooperate in finding a solution and allow Kashmir to proceed towards independence.

There shouldn't be much problem with immigrants, if Nepalis are free to work in India then we shouldn't have any problem with Bangladeshis of lower spectrum just because they are Muslims. I don't also buy BJP's allegation of demography shifting.

This 'immigration problem' started to surface when Khaleda biwi and her Jamati friends thought of riding the gravy train and tried to pull off an ISI. West Bengal state govt first went vocal about it when for the first time AK wielding terrorists killed innocent police personnel in Calcutta and their root traced back to BD. If you want to play ballgames then get ready to face the music as well!
