Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) of The Hague in the Netherlands will begin its hearing on the delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and India in December.

The final verdict, in this regard, will come by 2014, Banglanews24.com reported quoting Bangladesh foreign ministry sources.

On July 31, India, in the second phase of arguments, submitted its written papers on behalf of their demand to PCA.

Bangladesh also submitted written arguments along with necessary documents to the court in two phases.

Dhaka, on January 31, claimed that the maritime boundary should be fixed in a lawful way as the seacoast of Bangladesh is curved inward.

“Recently India submitted their written arguments and the hearing may be held on December of this year,” said Khurshid Alam, Deputy Agent of Bangladesh to PCA and also maritime unit secretary of the foreign ministry.

He said Bangladesh placed the demand of maritime boundary earlier in 2011.

Later India also made their claim in the PCA in 2012.

Bangladesh instituted arbitral proceedings in the PCA on October 08, 2009 after making all-out attempts to solve the issue bilaterally.

Khurshid claimed that Bangladesh submitted all the necessary documents to the court in support of its demand.

The main dispute is with the earth line of sea where India wants the line placed on the basis of equidistance and Bangladesh wants on the basis of equality.

Foreign ministry sources said India demanded the line be drawn on 162 degrees but Bangladesh demanded that it should be on 180 degree.
