Dhaka, Aug 26 (UNB) - Opposition BNP today alleged that the government restricted street agitation to stifle the people’s voice against its anti-national deals with India. Addressing a rally at Muktangon in the city BNP leaders demanded complete release of Arafat Rahman Koko by withdrawing the government decision to cancel his parole.

The rally was organized to protest the cancellation of Koko’s parole and 'fabricated and false' propaganda against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman. Unlike in the past, leaders and workers of BNP and its front and associate organizations thronged the rally venue in small groups, not in slogan-raising procession, to avoid police action. Some groups of activists were seen entered the Muktangon in procession made up just near the venue. DMP has restricted processions and rallies on the streets to avoid traffic jam in the capital.

Addressing the rally Khandaker Mosharraf said Awami League has proved itself fascist and undemocratic by imposing restriction on street procession and rallies. Now it has been proved that the government is running the country in autocratic way in guise of democracy, he said.

He said borders are now unprotected, the country’s independence and sovereignty are at risk, the government is involved in activities against the national interest, it failed to oppose the Indian move to construct Tipaimuk Dam over the Borak river across Sylhet.

Mosharraf said restriction on street rallies and procession was imposed to stifle the people’s voice against providing transit and corridor facility to India.

He protested the evil propaganda against Tarique Rahman and asked the government to refrain from politics of vendetta as it can’t bring peace and political stability in the country. The BNP leader said people took to the street against the government misdeeds and its conspiracy against the Zia family, nationalist and patriotic democratic forces so that people cannot be united. Mosharraf called upon the party leaders and workers to prepare for launching a vigorous movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia to save the country and its people.

BNP senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for unity of all nationalist and patriotic democratic forces to resist the 'fascist activities as well as design to establish one-party BKSAL rule'. He said the Awami League government after assuming in power has given top priority in eliminating the opposition.

JCD president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said they will forego celebration of Eid and take to the street if the demand of restoration of parole to Koko is not accepted. Presided over by BNP vice-chairman Air-vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, the rally was addressed, among others, by Fazlul Huq Milon, Mashiur Rahman, Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Abul Khaier MP, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Noor-e-Ara Safa.

Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) - Main opposition BNP apprehends the government may arrest its chairperson Khaleda Zia before the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Bangladesh to satisfy him through signing deals compromising national interest. BNP leaders made the allegation while taking part in a human chain organized by Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad outside the National Press Club on Friday.

The human chain was organized to protest a recent case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission against Khaleda Zia and the warrant of arrest against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman. BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said it is being heard Khaleda Zia and other senior leaders would be arrested before Manmohan Singh’s visit in a bid to satisfy him by signing various deals by sacrificing the national interests.

Another standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia said the “false” case has been filed against Khaleda Zia so that no movement can be built up against the signing of “uneven” agreements during Manmohan Singh’s visit. Representatives from different professions joined the human chain and spoke on the occasion.

The speakers included Supreme Court Bar Association president Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Peshajibi Parishad convenor Mahmudur Rahman, Dhaka University teachers Dr Sadrul Amin and Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Peshajibi Parishad member secretary Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.

Dhaka, Aug 11 (IBNS): The final preparations are on in Bangladesh for the high profile visit of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next month during which the two countries are set to sign a historic land boundary agreement that has been on the cards for over three decades. New Delhi has sent a six-member team to Dhaka to chalk out the logistics and security details for Singh’s visit that begins on Sep. 5 which is being seen as marking a model for resolution of disputes with other neighbours. During the visit, Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, a state that shares a border with Bangladesh, will be accompanied by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and is set to co-sign the border deal with his counterpart Sheikh Hasina. Fulfilling the vision laid down by the 1974 accord of then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the two sides will finally settle the remaining disputes over the 4,096-km border between the two countries.

Besides demarcating the remaining 2.4 km of the 4,096-km boundary, pending since 1974, the agreement is also set to resolve issues over possession of some 7,000 acres of “adverse possessions” -- land that is used by natives of one nation but lies with another. More crucially, the deal will also resolve the questions of sovereignty of about 10,000 acres of territorial enclaves -- small pieces of land on which small populations live encircled by the other country. Changing the map of the countries, the accord will mark the transfer of a majority of these enclaves to Bangladesh while India will take control of a larger share of adverse possessions at 4,000 acres.

Besides the this landmark accord, the two India and Bangladesh are also expected to finally put a rest to the thorny issue of sharing waters of the Teesta river. According to reports, a trade deal is also under consideration by Indian authorities.

What's the point? Their pop density is close to BD's and they have way less resources (with a tiny coastline and a dying port). We'd be better of fetching NE. NE needs us and we need them. Not possible anytime soon, unless we take advantage of an india vs china+pak war!

lool. But they are your Bangla brothers though. Why don't you take both NE because it has less population and more area and Bengal because they are your bothers. And since you are snatching NE and West Bengal why don't you take Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar as well because of Maoists and Naxalites it would be easy to do that. But you'll loose Islam as your state religion.

J&K, Punjab and Hariyana would be given to Pakistan and Pakistan would no longer be 'Islamic' republic.

Rajasthan would be a separate Hindu country.

Gujarat and Maharashtra will make their own seperate Hindu country called 'Mahagujarat' the way it used to be before two states partitioned.

Himachal, Uttarakhand an UP will make another Hindu country or merge with Nepal and make 'Greater Nepal'.

Andhra Pradesh will form a Hindu country of Deccan.

Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu will form another Hindu country called 'Tamildesh' or something like that.

Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh will make abother Hindu country. :)

Each Hindu country would fight with each other over border disputes for example Mahagujarat and Tamildesh would fight over Goa and so on.

loooooool Btw each colour is a different country. :)

But seriously it's actually quite funny the country we helped gain independence to is talking about cutting us.
'Jis bachche ko humne janam diya aaj wo hi hume katane ki baat kar raha hai.' loooool :D

So 2 Islamic countries finished and 6 new Hindu countries. Win-win for Hindus I guess. looool :P

@apo: this is why i want khilafat...... i know this is day dreaming..... But this is the only way Bangladesh can face India ! As our prophet (sm) said A group of His follower is going to win in India , later joining rest of the caliphate army in Syria ......... So it is either Pakistanis or Pakistanis + Bangladeshis.

p.s.: please Indians do not reply to my post as it is only for believers.

India should annex CHT already, I have already made a map for it, shall pass it on to the Indian Army.
