Ban Bollywood: Pakistan bigwigs

I beg to differ.

In the case of "Vedic" cultural implications in Indian soaps and movies, they still happen to be an important part of the region and culture including Pakistan where the history of the land is in many ways tied to the culture. In addition, there are many Pakistani Hindus as well that can relate to these practices...Hence I think exposure to other cultures will only build tolerance...
I find it ridiculous that soaps or references to MangalSutra's will drive Pakistani kids to "shaadi" instead of "nikah"

You would be surprised, it does.. ive seen kids asking in wedding when the bride and groom will do the "sat-phera's"

I find it disturbing that you choose to use the word "Infect" it. Cultural tolerance has to be imparted in our youth. They need to learn the uniqueness of our region and have to understand that Pakistan and India are not only about Hindu or Muslim...How else is one to eradicate the many misconceptions our two countries have wrt. each others cultures (some of it evident on this forum itself).
Besides with the mutual hatred and mistrust that our countries face, I think Movies and entertainment is definitely the kind of soft approach that can help bridge this gap...

Of course...I do agree with you that not ALL Indian entertainment is healthy....Some of it is pure crap and Im in favor of banning this...But I do not like that the "Mangal Sutra" is what sparked your line of argument.

The mangalsutra as a religious icon would have no issues..
However, its best left to Nat geo to show off such differences.
That is a good educational way to learn culture.. and not over-bloated, hyped.. socially corrupt soap operas.
Where gaudy makeup, ridiculous sari's which I consider an insult to a sari... and unusual social overtones such as Muslims being shown as servants.. or in a lower social stature are taken as the norm.
Which of KK's soaps would you say accurately represents Indian society or culture?
the continuous family feuds? the ridiculous relationships? unbelievable bank accounts?

Agreed. But my question was...Why are kids watching these shows which have quite a few adult concepts. Doesnt that bother you? Shouldnt parents be held accountable? What happened to Parental control?
Besides, I can see your argument hold true if Indian soaps were marketing to young malleable minds, but these shows are clearly targeted to adults who are well aware of "cultural and religious" implications.
I blame the parents...

The parents are to blame, however... if a certain element is controllable... just as efforts are made to control pornography.. then it must be done, this is the least that PEMRA can contribute.
Dont get me wrong.. the day my kids get old enough.. Devdas(55), Bandini.. even 3 idiots would be first on my list to show em.
Just as I would like em to see "Kramer vs Kramer" or "the Kings speech"..
However.. I catch em watching an Indian soap.. Ill beat the **** out of em.
Tomorrow, if India has better TV content to offer.. ill reconsider.. but when its glittered doses of fictional degenerated crap.. I want it out of my tube.

LOL!! That just made me crack up....so true..

I have been using GOB quote "Ive made a huge mistake" for a while now....damn the tube

Precisely my point....except for a few words that may be used due to influence, for most part cultural effects are more due to environment, where exposure is more to family, friends and community, less by soaps

PS: You knowlege of Hindi/Sanskrit words is commendable

yet.. Soaps.. or other influences will intrude.. and more so into the nubile mind that is the child..
A family structure is upto the family itself to protect.. but there has to be culture preservation, Or it will be lost in this scourge of globalization(read westernization).. without the better aspects of that culture.. be it Pathan,Punjabi,Sindhi, Rajisthani, Keralite..
being preserved and passed on.. your identity is nothing more than a carbon copy of barney stinson.

The trend for these soaps has even effected Pakistani tv serials..
Once benchmarks for good stories and acting..
Now they have decided to mimic KK's toilet cleaners to rake in viewers..
with more and more ridiculous reality shows also entering the mix imitating their Indian counterparts.
They attract the identity less population of Northern Karachi the most.

sorry we are not responsible for this. The void created by Pakistanis only. The limited opportunities and rare talents are need to be blame. Saying other stuffs crap and garbage won't solve your problem. Everyone has perspective to see the things. Guess what if mullahs watch the barney stinson !!!

Nobody is holding you responsible.. you are off the hook.. your bail has been posted.. Awesome!

Pakistani's are responsible for this.. and therefore must fix it themselves..
I do however stand by my considering KK's stuff as low down.. garbage.

You simply don't count. The stuffs are not for your consumption. The same "garbage" thing I can also say about pakistani programs. I may sound harsh but it reminds me that a beggar is taunting Mukesh ambani that he is not as rich as bill gates.

don't you people have remote control at home ?

I asked my cousin why she watches star plus. I was like "you know it's all crap, right". She responds "yeah I know, but I can't stop watching it". She had her eyes glued on the tv the entire time we were conversing. Star plus is like crack. Once you're in, you'll never get out.

Nothing is too big to prevent young kids from understanding that a mangalSutar is not part of our culture.
Nor is using ham for singular.. I mean who the heck is ham..you and who?
Its Mein.
ham is how we say it in the family. It's giving yourself the respect that you give to others by calling them aap.

I had no idea that some Indian show still used the classical royal ham.
