This enemy nonsense is highly exaggerated. I guess 99% of all countries of the world would like to have enemies such as Iran and Israel that we have not been at direct conflict with for the past 1400 years.
All while countries such as France-UK, Germany-France and Germany-Poland that have killed millions of each other for centuries in direct battles are very close friends and allies today.
Something to think about.
Saying that Israel and Iran have not been in conflict for 1400 years is a bit of a googly, because the state of Israel has only existed for 60 years. Before that, they were not a state, unless you go back to the times of the second temple. Today, the govt of Iran has claimed the intent to wipe Israel off the map, and I am sure the feelings are mutual.
The bit about Europe is quite easy, not much to think about actually. European countries were sworn enemies of each other for centuries, until WW2 when they devastaded themselves, and USA became the predominant force of the western hemisphere. (And USSR for a few decades.) But after WW2, and esablishment of the UN, they learnt to live in peace with each other, and are not sworn enemies anymore. Democratic governments answerable to the people, rather than rule by monarchs and despots, freedom of speech and movement, separation of church and state, all this reduced conflicts and increased trade and integration. In short, European society evolved for the better.
The middle east has not evolved like that, yet. Wars are still started at the whims of a monarch or dictator, and religious people want to see other religious people evaporated. (I know it doesn't apply to all religious people, but it doesn't have to.) The middle east is still full of conflicts, big and small, and there is not going to be an end to that until people begin to rule themselves, and the role of religion in society diminishes, and the role of religion in govt ends.
