LAHORE: Recently appointed T20I captain Babar Azam is likely to be made the national team’s ODI skipper as well as the vice-captain in Tests, according to sources close to the matter.

Azam on Friday became a direct beneficiary of Sarfaraz Ahmed’s fall from grace when the former was handed the T20I leadership held by the latter.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) removed Sarfaraz from the longest and shortest formats, it made no announcements regarding the 50-over side’s captaincy.

The rumour has it that the board, as things presently stand, plan on making Azam the ODI skipper too, although an announcement in this regard is not expected to be made until next year when Pakistan play the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is the favourite to be made Azam’s deputy in T20Is.

A final decision regarding the Test and T20I vice-captaincies will be out on Monday when the squads for the upcoming tour of Australia will be announced.

The kid is still to young. PCB should wait until he is 26-27 years old

Not a single captain groomed. The result of policies based on favouritism.

While, Azhar Ali is an obvious parchi.
Long live the King.

I fully agree. Actually it's an Indian conspiracy against Pak cricket, who control Pakistan via Iran.

Thank you misbah for starting politics.
Now akmal brother will come again, ahmed shahzad will come back and they will score zero and top of that destroying the performance of babar azam in future.

.
That's the plan... ruin bothe his carrier and Pakistan cricket.
In the end, if India failed to thank Imran Khan yet once again, than it's shame unlimited.
I wonder if there is any problem in the world which u dont blame on imran khan ?

when babar fail they bring half breed sarfaraz then later they might inject umar akmal and afridi fav selfie. once the selecter change everything change. to be honest after 99 i stop watching regularly. cricket sucks.

His figures in test cricket differ parchi accusation.

Why were Ahmend Shehzad and Umer Akmal given chances?

Sarfaraz was a pathetic captain. His batting form was next to nothing. He just did not seem to take responsibility in Test matches. For the time being, he was ok captain for T20 and ODI. But if Babar was in the mix, he should have been groomed for the role first. Now with added responsibility, he might flounder.

Babar Azam doesn't seems to have captaincy and leadership skills. He still needs to improve his batting skills in test cricket. More importantly, his communication skills, especially English sucks which is not good for his confidence. I don't know why, they didn't consider Imad Wasim for odi and 20-20 captain. To me he is a must player in limited overs cricket now. Could be better version of Hafeez in time to come. He speaks very good English as well which obviously helps in over all confidence.

Pakistan cricket problems can only be solved when we have a cricket specialist board who are not political and have a zero tolerant for favouritism. People who have a long term plan and also who have the knowledge to identify talent and nourish it.

I remember our coach Jeff Lawson who stated Pakistan cricket had deep political favouritism, this was when he was sacked when a new government came to power in Pakistan.

We need to improve our domestic cricket so those who come through it are ready for International cricket. I learnt over the decades that our cricket players cannot play when under pressure. Do we have people who teach them from a young age how to be professional and how to deal with pressure, how to motivate yourself, how fitness is important and fielding. I doubt it but we always wonder why our players suddenly collapse in the high level matches. Its either corruption or pressure.
