APA - Azerbaijan holding talks with Turkey on purchase of pontoon bridges

Turkey expressed readiness to assist Azerbaijan in establishment of seaport and shipbuilding yard

Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. Azerbaijan is negotiating with FNSS company of Turkey on the purchase of Samur pontoon bridges, said Yaqub Dasdelen, head of the international cooperation department of the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries.

According to him, this bridge is in the arsenal of the Turkish Army and Azerbaijani delegation was interested in this system during the visit to Turkey.

Dasdelen said that depending on the final decision of Azerbaijan, Turkey may sell these systems to Azerbaijan: “We are ready to cooperate to meet all needs of Azerbaijan’s defense industry.”

The Turkish representative added that Turkey offered some defense systems, including Otokar armored vehicles and Roketsan missiles. It is planned to manufacture Roketsan missiles in Azerbaijan and include in the arsenal of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Azerbaijan is also interested in T-129 ATAK helicopters produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

Dasdelen also said during the meeting of Azerbaijan-Turkey high-level military dialogue, the Azerbaijani side emphasized the establishment of seaport and shipbuilding yard: “We are ready to assist Azerbaijan in this sphere. It will be clarified whether it will be a civic or military facility.”



As for the participation of Azerbaijan in the Turkish project “National Infantry Rifle”, Dasdelen said that Azerbaijan was given necessary information and Turkey is currently waiting for a response: “We know that Azerbaijan needs these rifles. If it needs, it is possible to fully or partially produce or examine these rifles in Azerbaijan.”

With regard to the participation of Turkish companies in the upcoming ADEX-2014 in Azerbaijan in September, 2014, Dasdelen noted that 20 companies have already confirmed their participation: “It is important for us to attend the first defense exhibition of Azerbaijan.”

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan discuss Military relations

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan discussed the military relations in Baku on February 20.

Azerbaijani Deputy Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Chingiz Mammadov received a delegation led by Kazakh Deputy Defense Minister Bakytzhan Abdirayym. The meeting was held in the International Military Cooperation Office, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend on Feb. 20.

During the meeting they discussed the military, military-technical and military-educational relations between the two countries, as well as the current state and prospects of relations between the countries in the sphere of defense.

Defence reform plan submitted to Azerbaijani foreign ministry - Trend.Az

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry has submitted a draft document on the Strategic Defence Review to the Foreign Ministry, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry told Trend on Feb. 27.

The Strategic Defence Review covers such issues such as the number of personnel in the armed forces, their structure, weapons and military equipment, legislation in this area, future development and other aspects in accordance with international experience, the ministry said.

The final document on the strategic review is a plan of reforms to be implemented in the defence sector. It includes a list of necessary operations to be undertaken in the short, medium and long term, as well as political, economic and military mechanisms necessary for the implementation of reforms in the defence sector.
