Azeri coastguard revamps fleet with Israeli help - IHS Jane's 360
IHS Jane's can confirm that an Israel Shipyards order to deliver six Shaldag Mk V patrol boats and six Saar 62 offshore patrol vessel (OPVs), an order reportedly for two separate customers, in fact came from the same customer - the Azerbaijan Coast Guard (Sahil Mühafizsin).
This development came to light following the release on 18 July 2014 of images relating to the commissioning of a new 13,000 m 2 naval shipyard, staffed by nearly 100 specialist workers, at Turkan in Baku. The images showed details of the ongoing work on the vessels.
So far the new facility - itself also believed to have been built by Israel Shipyards - has constructed two 32.65 m, 95 ton Shaldag Mk V fast attack craft (pennants S301 and S302) using kits supplied by Israel Shipyards.
I am curious why our brothers doesnt prefer to go with turkish companies but choosing israeli instead we have pretty cool patrol vessel and FAC designs built in both composite and steel . this would enhance cooperation between us , even ToT might be considerable so azeri brothers will construct as many as need at any time.
Also Azerbaijan might have self sufficient in OPV-FAC production , no need to one israeli built shipyard. Anyway seems to be a politic decision probably handed over beside other major deal. Still pretty cool acquistion to have strong power in caspian seaI am curious why our brothers doesnt prefer to go with turkish companies but choosing israeli instead we have pretty cool patrol vessel and FAC designs built in both composite and steel . this would enhance cooperation between us , even ToT might be considerable so azeri brothers will construct as many as need at any time.
