Not quite correct and also correct at the same time. The region was always Armenian and Christian. Sometime in the 1930s I believe Joseph Stalin gave it to Azerbaijan. Something that Stalin did in other areas as well, conflict in post Soviet era was fueled unfortunately because of Stalin decisions to separate people and put them together with completely different groups. So The people there have always been Armenian and weere forcibly united to Azerbaijan. So even though legally technically Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan, In reality it was always Armenia. It’s actually very similar to what happened to Kashmiri people. I remember when I was a kid, in the late 1980s, the Soviet Union was collapsing and different republics started fighting. I remember how the Azerbaijani started pogroms and ethnic cleansing of Armenian people in Azerbaijan and killed and raped thousands and kicked out Armenian folk from their homes. Then the Armenian started to fight back. Sad all around, thousands killed. Both sides were horrible and massacres on all sides. This is a horrible situation, as these really are very similar people and only differences are language and faith.

This territory belongs to Azerbaijan. This is internationally recognised. Mostly ethnic Armenians live in the region. It is like Afghans living inside Pakistan demanding Pak territory.

I wouldn’t trust any reports from either side though Armenian reports on Azerbaijani forces seem a bit inflated. In a direct military conflict, Azerbaijan has absolute superiority over Armenia.

7 Azerbaijani villages liberated

As a result of the counter-offensive operation of the Azerbaijani army, 7 villages were liberated from the occupation.

In particular, the Azerbaijani army liberated the villages of Garakhanbeyli, Garvand, Kend Horadiz , Yukhary Abdurahamanli and Ashagi Abdurahmanlı of the Fizuli region, as well as the villages of Boyuk Marjanli and Nyuzgar of the Jabrayil region.

In addition, the Azerbaijani army defeated a number of enemy posts in the Agderin direction and the Murovdag mountain range, the Ministry of Defense reported.

Iran considers the Azerbaijan-Israel alliance as a major threat, because it has turned its northern border into a weak point that could allow Israeli spies to infiltrate its territory. Iran’s foreign ministry also accused Baku of providing a corridor for Mossad to kill Iranian nuclear scientists. Moreover, International media recently made the assumption that Israeli war planes could use Azerbaijan as a platform for possible strikes against Iran nuclear facilities.

The allegations first emerged in an article published by Foreign Policy magazine, which caused uproar in the region. The article, quoting U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Azerbaijan had granted Israel access to its airbases on Iran’s northern border making easier an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Having the access to such airfields would mean for Israel that it’s F-15 and F-16 fighter bombers could bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities simply landing in Azerbaijan. That would make an Israeli strike much more possible because the main logistical problem, the refuel of the aircrafts during the 2,200-mile trip from Israel to Iran and back, would be solved. Following the article the Azerbaijani defence ministry strongly denied such a possibility. The U.S. Republican Jewish Coalition accused the Obama administration of having leaked this information to the press to hinder a possible Israeli strike against Iran.

Russia is only behind money and her own interests, Iranian government will never let Russians bomb Azerbaijan from their land, almost all their mullahs are Azari, including their supreme leader and all military commanders and troops. The only issues between Iranians and Azeris the fact that Azerbaijan has allowed Israelis to set up bases to eventually attack Iran. Also 90% of Iranian folk are Shia, same as Azerbaijan. In a real war Azerbaijan would delete the Armenian forces from front.

Yes but on the other side of the picture, Russia is fully behind Armenia, already has sent tons of heavy weapons and there are reports that they have requested Iranian Airbases for strikes against Azerbaijan if need arises.

Iran will support whoever is best for their interests, so will Russia and everyone else. Turkey does not have that luxury, as they are invested in the region and looking to increase influence in Caucasus. In the case of major conflict, Turkey will intervene while Russia will sit and watch and continue supplying both sides . Big issue would be the Armenian diaspora, they have the strongest lobby in the USA and Europe after the Jewish lobby. Israel will likely supply Azerbaijan with more weapons. Azerbaijan will likely recover a nice chunk of territory.

Lack of better word, we should say Russia and Iran tried to pull Azerbaijan into their orbit, and both have tried hard to be neutral on Nagorno Karabakh. Both do not want Azerbaijan to perceive them as pro Armenia. Both as well as USA want Azerbaijan to be their client state.

But if Azerbaijan initiate the war, then both Russia and Iran would not standby let Armenia get annihilated.
