What's new

As a Christian, suddenly I am a stranger in my own country, writes Julio Ribeiro

first of all ,Ancestors of todays Syrian Christians are not homogeneous...They were converts from then immigrant Jewish communities,Upper/lower caste Hindus and even Buddhist groups...At present they are the top most progressive and effluent groups in Kerala, even in India.
A sanghi like you can't ACCEPT these realities and facts..

Since syrian christians did not marry from outside their community, they are pretty homogeneous unless you are taking about the various denominations like Mar Thoma (the actual oldest of them all), Syrian catholic, Latin catholic or the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox etc.

There is no record of them ever converting from jewish either, since Jewish are pretty particular about such things. Their status today has no bearing on history or this thread.

firstly,Latin Christians are not Syrians...what denominations??:Syro Malabar Catholic,Orthodox,Malankara,Jacobites etc all comes under Syrian Christian category..
There are ENOUGH Jewish evidence and influence in Syrian Christian groups,in their names, cusines, language, cultural practices, tradition etc etc..better 'google'(care to ignore hate vomiting sanghi websites) or go through any AUTHENTIC Kerala historical records for more information..

You ignorance on all matters is well established, so you do not get to tell me to "google". Do it yourself and get educated.
Kerala records of late had no credibility with myths of st. thomas woven in to spin your own version of history. All such attempts since 1977 has been thoroughly discredited.

The cutting of cross into the skin above the nose is an old coptic practice.

Since the branching of the coptic in Egypt into Chalcedonians and Non Chalcedonians (Jacobites, named after Jacob Baradeaus) resulted in the jacobites being persecuted and them settling in syria and Iraq.

There is a good chance they would have fled to Kerala when the islamic invasion began and was hence know as Nasrani. This is a more likely story than any myth you spin. Either this, or the few priests who landed here converted the tribal, intermarried and settled in kerala.

Better stick to your own subjects,Manvan..Being a Syrian Christian myself,at least I know more about my own history, tradition and don't need to get educated from a Christian hating sanghi troll like you...
Don't poke into subjects, that you have zero knowledge or understanding..Or if you want to SHIT your frustrations for Christians, better find some other forums that suites your vomitings..

The story of Mahabali, as I have heard it only mentions his rule being benevolent. But however he wanted to challenge the authority of the gods and wanted to conquer all worlds. Hence he had to be stopped. Also, he did not offer his head to Vishnu out of devotion but because of his dharma - that he must keep his promise, even though he found out he has been deceived (else, why did Vishnu have to come disguised as Vamana?). Then again, myths have different versions and different interpretations.

@MokshaVimukthi and @mooppan You guys are contradicting each other here. However, just as mooppan says here, I believe 60-65% of Keralite Xians belong to the Syrian denominations.

I don't disagree. I was only explaining to Sherin that Ezhavas or Nadars did not convert in bulk and in fact most of them remained Hindus. In an earlier comment too, I had outlined the reason for the conversion of Nadars in Tamil Nadu.

So, they were upper castes. May be not in the traditional sense. But however they were in fact treated with respect and were not oppressed, contrary to Sherin's theory that they were all converted only later because of caste oppression. I know a few Nasranis and some of them say that they were Namboodiris before.
I am not talking about all Christians some are converted because of that

Lol, yep. Just reading the comments one can tell how fast India is going down the same route as Pakistan. :pop:

Thats what scares me. A bunch of idiots and nutcases think that with BJP in power they have a free ride to impose their screwed up neo-con pseudo Hindutvavadi (without realizing what it actually means) will on the rest of the population. They forget that in 4 years, there will be another round of elections and if such antics keep happening, the powers at the center will change. BJP already lost Delhi now. A harbinger of things to come?

LOL. Be afraid. Be very afraid. .............. and keep wishing for the harbinger of your dreams :P

It's up to the electorate to see these things and decide if this is what they want. If the people remain silent, the outspoken minority gets more bold as it senses weakness. I don't know how the people will react.

The electorate always speaks. They have previously spoken when after Vajpayee's tenure, L. K. Advani wanted to capitalize on "Shining India". BJP lost miserably. The irony of BJP at the national level is such that one person from the party can capture the nation's imagination for a short duration, but lacks the power to sustain that wave to convert it into another resounding victory in a subsequent election. Unless and until BJP concentrates on good governance and stops loose soundbites from party members and stupidity being perpetuated by its affiliated goons, another victory in the general elections will be but a dream.

LOL. Vajpayee is very old news.

So far BJP has converted that wave into victory in Maharasthra, haryana, Kashmir and Jarkhand. It kept its vote share in Delhi and has now become the LARGEST party in the world. :cheesy: That is VERY VERY Good news.

Sound bites keep BJP in the news, that is always good. Its good governance will drive home the point. Stop counting your dream chicks. Even the eggs have not been laid by the opposition. :P

Well I can understand your apprehensions but things are being blown out of proportions. No one doubted Sikhs soldiers during 84, or Muslim soldiers during Babri case. But Modi bans foreign funds for Christians NGOs out comes the TOP COP and Ex Navy Chief and they say Christian soldiers in the force might get affected by all this.
Show me the proof and evidence about Christians being on hit list except soul harvesting evangelists?

Any idiot can join the party online. That means nothing. That is not real membership. What benefits do members get if they simply join online? How does it actually help the party? Nada!
And history has an uncanny tendency to repeat itself. IF BJP sticks to strict and good governance and stops its ministers from making jokers out of themselves, then they might stand a chance in the next elections.

People (the electorate) has given them a chance. Better behave and deliver. If not, there are other parties.

What difference does it make? If a person wants to convert or follow another religion, why stop him/her? What sense does it make to threaten people from following a faith of their choice? If someone promises you something better in certain aspects, wouldnt you take that?
Anyway, if the NGOs are doing good work, I dont see a problem in letting them do that. Stopping them just shows one's bigotry and insecurity.
