ARJ21 conducts cold weather testing - People's Daily Online January 26, 2010

China's first indigenously-made regional jetliner ARJ21-700 has successfully conducted cold weather testing, a crucial step in getting the type certificate, China News Service's Website reported Monday.

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the ARJ21's manufacturer, told media Monday the ARJ21-700 plane with serial number 103 successfully flew from Hailar district, Hulun Buir city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to Yanliang district of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, finishing the cold weather ground and flight testing.

COMAC said two ARJ21 jets with serial number 102 and 103 underwent the cold soak testing on the ground and during the flight in January, according to China News Service's Website.

The report said the ARJ21 will conduct other extreme weather tests in the near future.

ARJ21 project began in 2002 and the jetliner is China's first home-grown passenger jet. ARJ21-700 is the baseline model which will have a capability of 78-90 passengers.

ARJ21 is expected to get its type certificate and be delivered to its first user – Chengdu Airlines by the end of this year at the earliest.

COMAC also has a plan to receive the United States FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) certification for ARJ21 in 2012, earlier media reports said.

COMAC is a Chinese aerospace manufacturer established in 2008 in Shanghai. The state-owned corporation is also building China's first large passenger aircraft – C919, which is a 168-190 seat narrow-body jetliner and is expected to be delivered in 2016.

China's homemade jet ARJ21-700 starts cold-weather trial

XI'AN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The country's first homegrown regional jet ARJ21-700 is being tested to see how well it performs in the extreme cold of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China's flight testing establishment said Sunday.

The 78- to 90-seat aircraft completed a 3-hour flight from Xi'an in Shaanxi Province to Manzhouli City, Inner Mongolia, Thursday, according to the jet's manufacturer -- the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac).

A spokesman with the company confirmed the jet's cold-weather trial would continue for a week to test the performance of its hydraulics and other functions in Manzhouli, where the daily average temperature is 30 below zero.

The jet has a maximum flight range of 3,700 kilometers and maximum altitude of 11,900 meters.

So far, ARJ21-700 has completed more than 900 hours of tests during 400 trial flights since November 2008, when the plane made its first trial flight in Shanghai.

Comac is working to get U.S.Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification. If achieved, the ARJ21 will be the first Chinese commercial aircraft to receive U.S. approval.

China's AVIC International Holding Corporation signed a deal with Comac to sell 100 ARJ21-700 baseline models overseas at an air show held last November in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, which brought the number of the jet orders to 340 in total.

Home assembled more appropriate.

Like many products' label:

Made in China, Designed in ...... .

What about its engines, avionics? Some chapters of its manual are exactly the same as its foreign supplier's own's. They already admitted that this is basically a product of financing of foreign companies and domestic ones.

Please check out which popular passenger aircraft like Boeing or Airbus do not use foreign parts or components, does that mean they are just assemble them?

China is a complet new player in comercial jets builders. It is something like start from zero. The reputation is important in this field. So try to use some matured sub systems to get a good jet and good repution will be a good start.

I knew you would say this.

The difference is:

Those giant companies' planes' parts are produced in allied or controllable countries. Those countries are controlled by capital groups which have a lot of connections and good relationship. They do not worry about their parts. And they have the technology.

Are China and Canada or the US allies? Or does this company control GE's engine production? What if the relationship with them is not so good? Are Canadians worried about the US' F-35s like they are with J-20s? No, of course, cuz Canada is part of them. And does this country which produces ARJ-21, or any of its allies have the technology to produce its engines?:partay:

Since it's neccesary to use non-allied foreign countries' engines, avionics, and many other parts to gain good repution, then do not say independently designed.

There is a list of its important or trivial parts' foreign suppliers.

99% or 100% are from western countries who are preparing to buy F-35s and at the same time do not like to see J-20's appearance.:bunny:

Going by your logic even Jas-Gripen is not sweedish made then coz it has American engine and avionics from various countries like brazil and South Africa so why don't you ask them to stop calling it an indigenous

I can give you ten's of examples here including from neighboring country in the east but due to high probability of troll attacks i will refrain myself coz i don't want to ruin this thread.

BTW Congrats to China and Chinese members

last few months have been like gold for China as we have seen dozen of news regarding military products including the most awaited j-20

Contrary to the implication by the poster "Time," the problem is not technology. China's indigenous manufacture of the J-10 and J-20 shows that it possesses all of the necessary technologies to build a less-technologically-challenging civilian airplane. It is necessary for China to partner with foreign suppliers to induce confidence among the foreign buyers and passengers.

Also, bringing in foreign suppliers lowers the political resistance/protectionism when China tries to export the ARJ21-700 into those countries.

It's not important whether they call it an indigenous one or not, cuz Sweden is a western country which is part of western capital group system. Is this country who made ARJ-21 at the same place?

It is proper to call the ARJ21-700 indigenous, because China is the lead project manager. The suppliers have competed ferociously to become a partner (e.g. see GE and Honeywell interviews) in China's ARJ21-700. If the suppliers do not want to join, they are free to leave and China will replace them or use its own technology, if necessary.

The bottom line is that all of the subcontractors are replaceable and China possesses indigenous technology to fill the gap, if it so desired.

Brazil is a part of American continent and South Africa is a part of Africa so where does this western thingy came?
