Xi calls for large aircraft to boost power

Building a commercial aircraft is probably the most difficult civilian technology to master. I think it's more difficult than making the latest microprocessor or operating system software. Not sure what other civilian technology can be as difficult as building a commercial aircraft.
It is the most difficult commercial technology. The 2nd most difficult would be high-speed bullet train.

Not as difficult as Y-20. One of the requirement for Y-20 is to able to landed on unprepared airfield. This more or less show the engineering require for such sturdy plane.

It is similar project technology. If you can build a large commercial airplane, you can build a large military transport aircraft. Both can use same engine and electronic. The difference is marginal.

well if Brazil can produced commercial plane succesfully, then China, Russia and even India should be able to do it. IMO. surprised to see they still havent after all these years/decades.:D

Eh, Y-10 project's termination isn't all that surprising. I would prefer it stayed, but China isn't near as rich and developed in the 80s and when you have limited resources, you have to prioritize.

A major problem associate with civilian products is that you are not only constrained by technological development and manufacturing capacity, market and trade barrier is a huge issue as well and aircraft market has one of the harshest barrier to entry among all the industries.

It is not about commercial airplane, it is the LARGE commercial airplane. Only one country able to do this and that was the USA. The other being a union of states contribution.
