New Delhi: Taking note of India's concerns, the United States on Monday warned Pakistan that any "misuse" of weapons supplied to it will be investigated and the US Congress will take it "seriously".

"We will look into it very seriously," US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer told reporters here, asserting that arms supplied to Pakistan should be used only for the purpose mentioned in the agreement between the two countries.

The envoy's comments came just days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his meeting with US President Barack Obama last week, voiced apprehensions about misuse of US military supplies to Pakistan.

Singh's apprehensions had prompted Obama to assure him that India's concerns in this regard would be kept in mind while dealing with the issue.

"...There are allegations of misuse of weapons given to Pakistan for other purposes. We will investigate it, Congress will take the issue seriously," Roemer said.

The envoy also maintained that before the US undertook the strategic dialogue with Pakistan last month, his country reached out to India to seek its "concerns and perspective".

Roemer said even after the strategic dialogue was over, his country sought India's views on the crucial issues pertaining to the ****** situation and the region as whole

Pakistan is getting weapons and money to fight with terrorism from USA.....they have rite to check the use or misuse of their weapons for other purposes

How lame can this get . Why get these assurances from USA... Big deal if US is giving 18 F 16s to Pakistan.. India should simply go ahead and buy double the number of SU 30 MKIs ( I think we just ordered 42). About a couple of billion dollars worth. Pocket change really... This military aid is chicken feed for what Pakistan is going thru right now.. India should really not make a fuss over it..

Well, its old American policy, when ever US sell India some high tech weapon, it also sell Pakistan solution too. So, keep India on neutral ground. I don't remember, I post article in which US and India navel defence procurements and Pakistan got the anti weapons.
Obviously majority of heavy weapons basically has no application in war on terror. Its Pak army push to US govt to fulfill Pak armed forces need. Do you think Harpoon or Orion has any application in war on terror ?

That would be very narrow way of analysis...Here is my POV...

Its all Diplomacy Mate... Keep improving and leave no stone unturned to deny the same to your adversary...Now i do not know if French Avionics for JF17 deal story has anything to do with India but just for hypothesis lets assume it is then don't you think that even though JF17 is not good enough a fighter to take on MKI's still this is welcome news from Indian POV??? If US is giving us assurance that use of such weapons will be monitored please suggest me how is it going to harm our interest...If they did good for us...if they don't then anyways we are not relying on this assurance....So nothing to loose for us in this but only to gain....

Now from Pakistan prespective if they indeed use such weapons for other purpose than what they are intended for(which is the launch an offensive attack on India) and US did take it seriously then you know what all they have to loose....

americans by now are mature and smart enough to know that such reports are not helpful at all; and quite an irritant.

They supply high tech arms to israel and taiwan; those arms sales have much bigger implications and ramifications than do the arms sales to Pakistan

pro-indian congressmen need to be put on a leash. This is where having powerful lobby groups can help; Pakistani-American community have a role to play here







p.s. most of these arms deals were signed in 2004/2005 and are being realized now. The indians like to choose WHEN to cry and whine about a few U.S.-Pakistan arms deals.

It shows their massive insecurities.
