We divided that because we Muslim Punjabis wanted to be with an Islamic country, Pakistan. Even Jinnah wanted the entire Punjab region to be with Pakistan but the British did not allow that. We will not allow our beautiful Punjab to be divided further. Punjab already made too many sacrafices in 1947.

1) A person who loves his land like a mother

2) A person who loves his country like a mother?

If option 1 is correct then you might be right

but if option 2 is correct, you would like to compromise if your country wants you to. If by dividing your provinces to smaller states helps you generate more money in taxes, more services for public and more accessibility to the barren lands/areas and better way of accountability for everybody and far better progress towards the country's economy I don't see why they should not be splited in smaller states?

Look at other countries for example. India is 4 times larger than you but they have 9 times more states than you in that area (28 states). That in my opinion is one of the key reason of their progress and higher growth rate

Look at Afghanistan, they are far smaller than you, yet enjoy 34 provinces in the country.

Look at European countries.... UK has divided its own country in counties and boroughs and each borrow have their own alloted budget... England is only 130,000 square kilometers yet they have 48 counties in the country.

Look at Italy, they are about 40% of your size of Pakistan and yet they have about 109 provinces in the country.

Most of the countries in the world (or should i say progressive countries) nowadays have been dividing its country in more states/provinces so that they can reach to the public in the quickest form of governance and boost country's economy by taking the most benefit out of little

By the way, the original inhabitants of Punjab are Gujars and Jatts. The Qureshis, Gilanis, Syyeds, Sindhi-Punjabis that are mostly in Southern Punjab migrated to Punjab centuries ago from other parts of the subcontinent and the Middle East. Gujars still make the majority in Northern Punjab and Jatts still make the majority in Central Punjab and Indian Punjab. Punjabi is really not an ethnic group like Baloch and Pukhtun is. Anyone who is a resident of Punjab is a Punjabi. Punjab (Panj-ab) means land of five rivers in Farsi, the name was given to us from Persians. Gujars and Jats are ethnic groups and are the original inhabitants of Punjab who should have a say on their land.

Theres nothing wrong in being proud of who you are and your family ancestral history. Its unrealistic to say that we can be only Muslims today in Pakistan. People are very proud of their ethnic group. Talk to a Pukhtun or Baloch you will know what Im talking about. Punjabis are also very proud people but we always put Pakistan first, people in Pakistan dont appreciate it and always blame us for Pakistan's problems so I believe we should also be proud of Punjab and being Punjabi, Muslim, and Pakistani.

brother you need to google it more, jatts and gujars were also the migraters milleniums ago, if you believe that gujars and jatts are the ones who should have the say because they occupies it centuries ago, then what will you say about israelis when thay claim that palestine are the land of our ancestors long milleniums ago.

I am not from Punjab but from Karachi, i think the division of Punjab into more provence is not a good idea, it's just a stupid political move by corrupt PPP. PPP which has already failed to benefit Pakistanis is busy in cheap stuffs, like changing names dividing provences. uptil now they haven't done anything to solve the problems of Pakistanis & trying to create more problems. NWFP renamed to KP(Hindkos unhappy), now thinking to divide Punjab(will make Punjabis unhappy & Pakistan could face more problems). Some people says this move will solve problems but i think it will double them. there is no benefit i see, this govt have no ability of doing anything good. Pakistan nessicities are not these, Pakistan nessicities are electricity,jobs,security,development etc.

Prime Minister Gilani and former foreign minister Qureshi are both from Southern Punjab and both are in political feud against each other so Gilani is just trying to get support from Southern Punjab but he is so stupid to understand that majority of Punjab's population live in Northern/Central Punjab and will never support this idea and turn against PPP even more. PPP's days are over. PML-N has a lot of support in Punjab not PPP, they can try getting support from Southern Punjabis who are mostly illiterate and dont even vote.

Some of the reasons I mentioned in last posts

whatever you mentioned are also possible and achievable in faster pace if we have more administrative bodies and more peoples responsible for their given tasks.

The entire world has followed the same trend and one day or another we will have to go same way too. At the moment Karachi alone is like a country... there are many countries who has less population than Karachi alone.

Punjab alone by population is bigger than all European countries if i am not wrong. Punjab alone was a separate country, it may have been 14th or 15th largest country of the world. Thats too big in terms of population and i think if divided in 3 or 4 parts - it can be managed better way

PS: Does it not sound funny that the Chief Minister of Punjab is responsible for more peoples than the total population of France, Turkey or UK?

We didn't divide "centuries old india". india as a country is not even 70 years old.

We just decided not to be apart of india when india was created in 1947.
