Angola to buy ex Spanish aircraft carrier Príncipe de Asturias?

Expensive useless toys? :woot:

A country like KSA needs to enhance its own self-defensive capability in the most volatile in the world. Isn't that right @GR!FF!N & @boomslang ?

Useless from the Saudi prospective.

Take US out of the picture and Saddam would have been the Uncle of everyone in the Gulf.

Even today the Iranians can make Saudi's feel sorry without US.

If it wasn't the US Saddam would have annexed whole GCC back in 90's.

Here is a small example - Battle of Khafji - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In December 2013 it was reported that Angola would be buying a package of old ships from the Spanish Navy. The Príncipe de Asturias is a small (16,000t)Harrier carrier, to be transferred along with the former USS Harlan County (a Newport-class landing ship), the F-32 Diana (a Descubierta-class corvetteconverted to minesweeper support ship), P-61 Chilreu (lead ship of its class of ocean patrol vessels) and the P-27 Ízaro (an Anaga-class patrol ship).[4]

The Angolan Navy has only 1,000 personnel.

Angolans are going crazy.

First the rumors of banning Islam..and now this?

Are they out of their pathetic mind? Somebody needs to bomb Angola read hard.

This might bring them back from their hallucinations.

Why did they ban islam?

is that a fake news??

1.Angola is the number one exporter of oil to China. The country has a large enclave to the north within DRC but on the sea. The nation's coast line is long.

2. Beside these there is always the kick-back factor in such deals -on either side.

3.World is changing. So is Africa. Why would,in the first place,Spain need an AC - except to contribute to NATO.

They will probably convert it into a hotel and earn money.......
What else can they do.

The Spanish themselves call it LHD.

It can carry 913 soldiers + up to 46 Leopard 2 tanks.

This ship is one of the contender for Indian Navy Multi Role Support Vessel Program.

In that case my arguments are more cemented on why Angolese can't operate this ship.

This ship requires 800+ crew. Angolese Navy is 1000 men Navy.

Aircrafts and other things come later. First they don't have manpower to operate the ship.

Manpower can be acquired within months dude..if they have the requirements and the money to purchase it,there is no stopping.do you ever studied the American Civil War.South acquired half of million soldiers within months, just like North did.its all depends on priorities.

How come they want to operate an AC without destroyers, or submarines or frigates?

From what I heated, Spain's naval industry sucks. Another thing is what you stated earlier is that how come they want to operate an AC without having enough power to protect it.

Don't know what will you heard and where, bus spanish naval industry is one of the best of the world.

F-100 Frigate

S-80 Submarine.
