American Weapons for China - President Obama Pushes for Sale of C-130s to China

2010-10-11

In a complete reversal of decades of U.S. policy on geopolitics and strategic security, U.S. President Barack Obama has written to the House of Representatives and to the President of the Senate seeking a termination of suspension of Arms Exports to China and to allow the sale of C-130 medium lift transport aircrafts to China. The letter by the President claims that this is in 'American national interest' and is for 'oil spill cleanup' efforts.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin. Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport aircraft. The versatile airframe has found uses in a variety of other roles, including as a gunship (AC-130), for airborne assault, search and rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance, aerial refueling, maritime patrol and aerial firefighting. It is the main tactical air-lifter for many military forces worldwide.

Quoted below is the letter by President Obama (Original):

For Immediate Release October 08, 2010
Letter from the President Regarding an Export Waiver for China

TEXT OF A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
TO THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE

Dear Madam Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)

Pursuant to the authority vested in me by section 902(b)(2) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Years 1990 and 1991 (Public Law 101-246)(the "Act"), and as President of the United States, I hereby report to the Congress that it is in the national interest of the United States to terminate the suspensions under section 902(a)(3) of the Act with respect to the issuance of temporary munitions export licenses for exports to the People's Republic of China insofar as such restrictions pertain to the C-130 cargo aircraft to be used in oil spill response operations at sea. License requirements remain in place for these exports and require review and approval on a case-by-case basis by the United States Government.

Sincerely,
BARACK OBAMA

No..... But Americans offering C 130 to China... China will turn this offer down like anything.. America is somehow trying to get access to Asia, So far they have been able to with other nations but China...? Man so "Chalu" they are... It clearly shows American motive that they want to gain access to all the markets possible... And this offer clearly shows that Americans somehow are trying to get familiar with China if only they let them... Lets see...

in my opinion china dont need c-130s may be they request for global masters.

Yes Americans are "Chalu wallah".

And there is an error with the topic :

Transportation aircraft is not a weapon.

China Urges U.S. To Further Relax Export Curbs

BEIJING - China on Oct. 12 urged the U.S. to further relax restrictions on high-tech exports to the Asian nation after the White House moved to partially lift a ban on military transport planes.

"We hope the U.S. side will continue to take measures to relax high-tech export restrictions to China," foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told reporters.

"This is in the interest of both sides."

U.S. President Barack Obama on Oct. 8 said it was in the "national interest of the United States" to lift restrictions on the export to China of C-130 cargo aircraft "to be used in oil spill response operations at sea".

China has long viewed U.S. curbs on high-tech exports as a barrier to balanced trade, and has repeatedly urged Washington to lift them in an effort to reduce Beijing's hefty trade surplus.

Yes, it's not and that's not at all my concern.. The reason for my amazement is seeing US making an offer to China for C 130 Tactical Military Transport Aircraft which is only being used by US allies so far.. India is not one but still it ordered the same.. It's not a concerned or a sensetive response rather mere amazement... That's all.... Im not against or in favor of anything here...

It would be conveniently brushed aside. China has active projects in Transport domain. That money would be far too good to invest in indigenous Transport development.

People , C130 is not a weapon system its just an air lifter which can be used for many purposes. I just don't like the sound of this article .

Why buy the C-130 when our Y-8s are comparable to the C-130J Super Hercules?

And we also have the Y-9, which is more effective.

And we have the Y-20 prototype.
