They were delivered in the mid 90's, during the Third Taiwan Crisis. They don't have the technology Type 052B,C and D has.

actually,2 are delivered in 1999 and in 2000.other 2 are delivered in 2005-06.of course Type 52 will complement these,but not by means of retiring an one decade old destroyer..

The old obsolete type 051 Luda destroyers are to be retired first and replace by new 052C and 052D. The Sov DDG will have to wait for their turns. Normally a navy ship is in service for 30 years before decommission.

No, they are still relatively new ships. China is not so rich that it can replace the mainstay of the East Sea fleet all at once. We still have 051 Luda class that are based on 1970's technology.
