What's new

Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility for Saturday night’s attack on a Naval dockyard in Karachi

ok so a ship in harbour has weapons ready and loaded?

which world do you live in?

please let's not get to excited and turn this into a tom clancy HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER type thing.
What if the wepons are ready and the frigate is in notice for patrolling??

.
Following training at an al-Qaeda camp, the men were tasked with hijacking the missiles through which they were to attack an American carrier, says the note.
They are not intended to sail out of the port but to take control of missiles(attack US acc if it is inside missile range).. Many Naval officers helped means it is possible to take control of the ship( not sail out)..

No it is not. And stop being stupid.

.
Nothing was left unguarded, and they DID NOT get control of any vessel. It was a lame attempt. PN Dockyard is in a very crowded area, surrounded by merchant/civilian entities. It is easy to sneak through, but not easy to hijack a ship. If Indians like you would stop blowing things out of proportion, maybe you would be able to see reality.

please read the report.I'm not blowing anything..

Pakistani media reports said the attackers succeeded in briefly seizing control of the Chinese-made F22P-type frigate, the Zulfiqar.

US Ships are stationed usually 300-400 Nm down south of Karachi or Gwadar. If at all u have to attack them with **** missiles, u have to travel around 200-250 Nm down south straight on the bearing of the target and then it has to be a completely deceptive tactic to dodge the enemy hard kill apparatus and EW suite to lauch ur attack. So in any case it would have been possible only is they had silently sailed with the ship and hijacked it after some time out at sea and made a frantic effort ....... but again very candidly, it is not possible... really.

.
Wut?? Good job pa if true.Took control of a frigate and we're proceeding to attack a US ship? That sounds like BS.
no BS

very daring ,outrageous and ambitious

reminds me of Steven Segal's under the siege movie. where Tommie Lee Jones leads a party of mercenaries hijacking a US warship

the plan was very effectively foiled though and all planners, supporters and accomplices were arrested all around the country before they could escape out of the country to Afghanistan etc. no wonder the Navy kept the news under wraps while it was arresting the people, had there been a private news channel able to gain access it would have blown the cover saying the attack is foiled and tipping off the other members to leave the country before Navy could capture them.

radicalisation of military is not a news for us and its nothing new. we are in a state of internal war and dealing with a local insurgency that has global support and influence. good thing is that it is still under control and the force has Not broken into factions like in Middle east.

whatever defections have been handful for over ten years but we cant be complacent because the implications are huge. if the frigate was nuclear armed then the terrorists could target Karachi or Mumbai as well to trigger a nuclear war between India and Pakistan which is a wishlist item of TTP.

F-22P is not carrying nuclear missiles

and it was not commandeered by the terrorists.....

the military is a product of the people of Pakistan (lower, middle and upper class)....amongst the lower ranks there will always be a few bad apples here or there. In many cases the bad apples are those who served but were dishonourably discharged so they have a grudge and a bone of contention.

this recent attack - the terrorists had no chance in hell. All eliminated or captured alive, one of them drowned and was fish food

there is almost a good article on Dawn but ends very badly showing that writer is not only clueless about the principles of war ,secrecy and surprise but has some old axes to grind against the military

no one bemoans the TTP for not bringing in a press confronts before their next attack but the same politicians and journalists become morons demanding minute to minute brief and heads-up before army operations and its responses

thank goodness that the dockyard was away from the access of some moron private channel otherwise their coverage would have alerted the terrorist accomplices across the country that it has been foiled and they had escaped to Afghanistan before we could get to them.

I still say that the planning was outrageous I give them that.
too good for us that they were absolutely foiled and the response had a text book finish.
although the death and injuries of those defending the place is regrettable.

absolutely......its unfortunate for the hard working and honest soldiers b/c i wont doubt that the spooks will now be breathing down a lot of people's necks, eyeballing things

at any rate this is a professional military, a celebrated one and one thats cherished in Pakistan

private media channels - some of them and a lot of anal-yts we have in Pakistan will jump on this....i'm sure it'll give hussain haqqani and traitors like him plenty of material to talk about at brookings and hudson institution

what annoys me is that they were able to bring IN undeclared weapons earlier on (assuming that part is true)....anyone who faciliates these people needs to be lined up, questioned, and then shot

answer to some usual questions

No Navy is not above national law
yes there should be independent inquiry
yes the findings & recommendations should be made public that are not sensitive in nature
yes the planers should have been apprehended earlier
yes those responsible for failing to foil the planning should be discipline

but is our judicial system competent, unbiased and competent? are our politicians any good? legacy of mardood ch iftikhar & current political squabble is not a healthy indicator
so military must do what it can and assure public that its rank and file are purged from rats

The bs part Was my initial reaction to the news which was unbelievable at first, I read the detailed news later and read about the arrests too.

Radicalization of defence personnel is a very serious concern.
