What's new

Akinci & Aksungur and Turkish Unmanned Fighter Aircraft Program

What did you thought, it not easy to develop a engine, specially if you don't have a industry. First you need a civillian aviaton industry to fund millitary project.

True words ... but please explain this to those who still think Turkey can develop an even more demanding fifth generation fighter for the TFX in such a short time...

I never wrote about 'in a short time'...

Ukraine and Turkey set up a joint venture in precision weapons and aerospace technologies
09.08.2019

The state company "Ukrspetsexport, a member of the "Ukroboronprom", and the Turkish company Baykar Defence, one of the leading manufacturers of drones, established a joint venture in precision weapons and aerospace technologies.

The main task of the venture is to combine the capabilities of both countries' defense complexes for large-scale production of new models of modern weapons for their armies. This will allow moving away from classic arms purchase contracts to an entirely new level of cooperation - the synergy of defense technologies and the combination of advanced developments from Turkey and Ukraine.

One of the first joint venture projects will be the development of a new-generation unmanned aerial vehicle. This drone will be able to conduct detailed reconnaissance from high echelons of flight, spend hours in the air, develop considerable cruising speed and strike targets with a wide range of high-precision weapons.

Such new drone capabilities will be made possible by the widespread use of composite materials, digital technologies, and Ukrainian-made engines capable of operating reliably in extreme conditions. In addition, they will provide high UAV carrying capacity, which will carry a large amount of armament, even compared to conventional assault aircraft. Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey have considerable experience of effective cooperation in defense technologies.

Turkish defense enterprises cooperate with Ukraine in the field of digital communications systems, combat drones, high-precision aviation weapons, etc.. The enterprises of SC "Ukroboronprom" are conducting joint projects on the creation of military transport aircraft, active defense systems for armored vehicles and radar systems. Stable mutually beneficial work has been established in recent years, which allows combining the strengths of our defense-industrial complexes. And establishing a joint venture is another important step that will increase our countries' defense capability.

hope that tech is protected by ukrainians and turks not just to sell off to others

Ukroboronprom:

The first joint project of Ukrspetsexport and Baykar Defense will be the next generation Akıncı UAV. The Akıncı UAV is being developed according to the needs of both Turkish and Ukrainian armed forces.

They can use the bombs used in combat aircrafts normally.
There will be two engines. Engines will be produced in Ukraine.
12 kilometers of max. altitude, 20 meters of wingspan, more than a ton of weapons-carrying capacity and 24-hour flight.

Ukrainian-Turkish enterprise develops next generation attack UAV Akinci

20.08.2019

Ukrspecexport, part of the Ukroboronprom State Concern, and the Turkish company Baykar Defense are developing a next generation unmanned aerial vehicle Akinci.

"The new generation strike UAV Akinci is being developed in accordance with the requirements of armed conflicts of the 21st century and is intended primarily for both Turkish and Ukrainian armed forces. One of its main advantages is the ability to deliver high-precision strikes with the same weapons that are used on conventional airplanes. We are talking about heavy-duty ammunition weighing hundreds of kilograms," Ukroboronprom's press service said.

According to the state concern, this has become possible thanks to the use of Ukrainian engines, which provide greater carrying capacity, speed and flight altitude, economy and ease of operation.

Akinci refers to the new "heavy" class of drones. It is equipped with two Ukrainian-made engines that provide flight at an altitude of more than 12 km. The drone has a wingspan of 20 meters, is capable of lifting more than 1,000 kg of weapons into the air and being in flight for a day.

The drone is equipped with the most advanced surveillance systems from thermal imagers and powerful cameras to radars with an active phased antenna array and numerous sensors.

"All this allows us to reveal even well-camouflaged targets at a considerable distance, to transmit coordinates for destruction, or to independently launch high-precision strikes," Ukroboronprom said.

Akinci's weapons range includes guided missiles and various conventional and high-precision bombs. Such armament allows the drone to destroy enemy manpower and equipment, as well as to strike at important enemy targets - fortifications, command and communications centers, bridges, warehouses, etc.

As reported, in 2019 the state-owned company Ukrspecexport and the Turkish Baykar Defence, which is one of the leading manufacturers of drones, created a joint venture that specializes in high-precision weapons and aerospace technologies. The main task of the joint venture is to combine the capacities of the defense complexes of the two countries for the mass production of new models of modern weapons for their own armies. This will allow moving away from classic arms sales and purchase contracts to a fundamentally new level of cooperation. The cooperation will exploit synergies of defense technologies and a combination of advanced developments in Turkey and Ukraine.
