After Indonesia election, new crop of leaders in focus for 2024 vote

There are many young leaders now seeking 2024 Presidential Election, even a raising star Emil Dardak is also promoting himself in TV One during this Ramadhan.

I believe this program set up by TV ONE for any one wanting to promote him selves and of course it should be from wellknown politician. Emil is now Vice Governor of East Java, the most populated province in Indonesia. He is an Economist (Doctorate) and started his political carrier by winning Trenggalek Regency before going to biggest Indonesia Province, East Java, Governor election

Emil and his wife Arumi Bachsin. He comes from Democrat party.

I believe in 2024 the coalition of Nationalist Religious and Islamist will be the same like in 2019 Presidential Election and Golkar party will likely join.

Prabowo still has huge supporters and he has been in the top survey for 2024 election. I believe despite he is already old, he will likely participate again in next Presidential Election with much greater possibility to win because Jokowi cannot run again based on our constitution.

This is the coalition in 2019 for Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Salahudin Uno.

My favorite leader for 2024 is Ridwan Kamil and I think he still has chance to improve its electability. He is a Governor of West Java, a province with 50 million people which are also the location of Indonesia main industry.

West Java region people is not Javanese, but Sundanese. West Java is wellknown as conservative Muslim region along with Jakarta, Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Lombok, and some part in Kalimantan.

He appeared about 2 days ago during Islamic talk show in Metro TV

Agus Yudhoyono, Democrat Party Leader, and oldest son of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, former Indonesian Presiden, steal the start and invite media to his house to have iftar after fasting. I know this most probably paying TV One to get the reporter eat with him and his wife, Anissa Pohan. The media is TV One which is close to Islamist audience. So we know his target market.

And now Anies Baswedan and his family is promoted in TV One channel. Honestly I prefer Anies Baswedan than Prabowo Subianto, there is tendency for Prabowo Subianto to buy huge foreign defense equipment if he is elected, something that I and many Indonesians dont like. We prefer President that support our own defense industry and so far in this matter Jokowi presidency is showing a good policy where he said defense budget should impact our defense industry and see defense budget as an investment rather than spending.

Anies and his family during Iftar in this Ramadhan. He shows Indonesian/Muslim character where his mother live alongside his wife and kids in the same house. We respect our parents and particularly mother in Islam weight three times than father.

Not yet being fired those 75 KPK officers, our democracy works and civilian leaders and media fight back !!!!!!!!!

Even second largest Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah, step in and will bring this case to the court if those 75 get fired. This is why I said democracy is the best system to fight corruption in any country

Alhamdulillah, Jokowi speak out and ask KPK leaders not to fire those 75 KPK officers. Indonesia is still having some breath to fight corruption until 2024 even under current KPK leaders which are criticized by many credible anti corruption figures.

After Today Jokowi announcement on those KPK officers, currently Jakarta is in huge rain, I believe it shows Allah is pleased with the announcement, those KPK officers that are being targeted are Islamist hard core, it also shows only religious people that can fight corruption. They make ideology tests to make Islamist out (KPK hard core and effective officers) from the Anti Corruption institution.

Daughter of Megawati Soekarno Putri, Puan Maharani, who is also current parliament Chairmant, will likely become PDI-P Presidential candidate by seeing latest new development in Indonesian politics where Ganjar, Central Java Governor, was not invited in PDI-P important meeting some days ago. Puan also recently criticized Ganjar as not working enough and only work in social media (to raise his popularity).

I think Megawati think that since Ganjar is not as popular as Jokowi and only get third position in any survey for 2024 Presidential candidate so it is better to put her daughter, Puan Maharani as PDI-P candidate.

I think Megawati and her close ally also think people who chose Ganjar during the survey must be PDI-P hard core fans where they will pick any PDI-P candidate regardless who will become the real candidate.

Megawati is in complete control on PDI-P and I think she wants to make sure that her daughter will be the next leader of PDI-P, replacing her if she passes away or retired as politician. Putting Puan as President candidate could be seen as crucial for the next PDI-P leadership legacy, regardless Puan will win or not in 2024 Presidential election, in which Jokowi cannot run again due to Constitution law that limit President period into only 2 times (10 years)

Megawati is a daughter of Soekarno where her mother, Fatmawati comes from Sumatra. Puan Maharani father also comes from Sumatra.

Puan Maharani

Agus Yudhoyono, Democrat Party Leader met with Ridwan Kamil, West Java Governor. It shows Democrat Party will likely chose Ridwan Kamil as one of their President candidate. Anies Baswedan and Ridwan Kamil are now seen as candidate that will represent Nationalist Religious and Islamist parties while Prabowo look like will change side to make coalition with another nationalist party, PDI-P.

JAKARTA (Reuters) - Even with Indonesia’s current presidential election result still to be officially confirmed, attention is turning to the next race for the top job in 2024 with some rising political stars and well-connected figures in the frame.

Sample vote counts by private pollsters from last week’s poll show that incumbent President Joko Widodo is headed for a second and final term in office though the results are being disputed by his challenger, ex-general Prabowo Subianto.

There are, however, a string of new leaders waiting in the wings for their chance including some who, like Widodo, cut their teeth running cities or provinces across the archipelago, and also the offspring of ex-leaders being groomed to take over.

Still, a candidate needs at least 20 percent of seats in parliament or 25 percent of the popular vote to stand, meaning it is conceivable for this year’s challenger Subianto, who is chairman of the Gerindra party, to run for a third attempt.

“We have a lot of potential leaders... The threshold should be lowered to give these people an open opportunity,” said Arya Fernandes, a researcher at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

Here are some of the possible contenders for the 2024 vote.

Anies Baswedan, 49, is the governor of Jakarta. The former education minister, with backing from opposition parties and some hardline Islamist groups, defeated the popular ethnic-Chinese, Christian governor of the capital in a vote marred by religious tensions. Still, the Fulbright Scholar who comes from a family of moderate Muslim scholars is seen as appealing to younger voters and representing a more modern face of Islam.

Sandiaga Uno, 49, was elected vice governor of Jakarta in 2017, but stood down to be the vice presidential running mate for Prabowo. His private equity fortune made to a large degree with investments in Indonesia’s coal industry helped fund Prabowo and his campaign. Though a relative newcomer to politics, the campaign has allowed him to raise his profile across Indonesia and he proved a hit with millennial and female voters.

Ridwan Kamil, 47, is governor of Indonesia’s most populous province West Java and an ally of Widodo. A trained architect, he was previously mayor of Bandung where he is credited with rebranding the city to encourage creativity and use of technology. He has successfully used social media to connect with voters and has more than 10 million followers on Instagram.

Puan Maharani, 45, is a minister for human development and cultural affairs. She has political pedigree as the daughter of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and granddaughter of Indonesia’s charismatic first leader, Sukarno. Her mother chairs the biggest party in parliament, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which is in the ruling coalition.

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, 40, is the eldest son of former president and Democratic Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The Harvard-educated politician followed his father by having a military career and despite his inexperience ran in the Jakarta governor race in 2017 where he lost in the first round. The Democratic Party has also not fared so well this year.

Other names being circulated by pollsters or the media include regional leaders such as Ganjar Pranowo, 50, the governor of Central Java, Tri Rismaharini, 57, mayor of Surabaya, and East Java governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, 53.

In eastern Indonesia, Nurdin Abdullah, 56, the South Sulawesi governor, is also seen as a contender.

Deputy parliament speaker and vice chairman of the Gerindra party Fadli Zon, 47, is also seen as a possible candidate as a Prabowo loyalist.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, 52, the ex-governor of Jakarta, still has many supporters if he did try to get back into politics even with a blasphemy conviction for insulting the Koran.

Billionaire businessman Erick Thohir, 48, who orchestrated last year’s Asian Games and Widodo’s 2019 presidential campaign, has also been mentioned though he has denied interest in a political career and up to now lacks governance experience.

Time spent campaign for the next election 100%. Time spent governing 0%.

Anies and Ridwan Kamil met together, being started by praying Fajr together and then have some meal together. This couple is fit to each other and can be President and Vice President candidate. So far Nasional Democrat whose leader is Surya Paloh and own Metro TV media supported Anies since last year and Democrat Party leader, Agus Yudhoyono also shows support to Ridwan Kamil as shown in my previous videos, while Islamist parties like PKS, PAN in my opinion will choose these couple as well, together with PPP.

Time spent campaign for the next election 100%. Time spent governing 0%.

Meeting the media is part of democratic process and this is how people can evaluate their leaders and know/understand their program.

As usual TV One will promote the Nationalist Religius and Islamist candidate.

TV One invited Anies Baswedan, Jakarta Governor, few weeks ago (Idul Fitri Holidays) at Prime Time and talked about issues related to women ( They try to capture women votes )

74 % Indonesian (based on recent survey) dont want to change constitution to allow Jokowi to have another chance to be President after completing his second term in 2024, so basically Indonesian people still stick to their Reformation ideas

Jokowi also has stated his rejection on some people idea to make him eligible to have third Presidential Election, the last rejection made by Jokowi spoke person, Fajrul Rahman, Yesterday

One of the newest political party, Nasional Democrat (Nasdem), builds their national office headquarter.

Location : Central Jakarta

Anies Baswedan get support from 7 parties in local Jakarta parliament, only hard core nationalist parties PDI-P and PSI which are against him. This shows huge positive indication for Anies Baswedan.

National Mandate Party Joins Gov’t Coalition
BY :THE JAKARTA GLOBE
AUGUST 25, 2021

Jakarta. The National Mandate Party, or PAN, has joined the coalition of political parties supporting the Joko “Jokowi” Widodo government, an aide of the president said on Wednesday.

The news came shortly after leaders of political parties met at the State Palace at the invitation of the president, according to Information Technology Minister Johnny G. Plate.

“The gathering was at the invitation of the president and all party leaders of the coalition welcomed PAN’s arrival represented by its chairman and secretary-general,” Johnny said at his official residence in Jakarta.

“So the coalition now has a new partner, with the presence of PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan and Secretary-General Eddy Soeparno. A new member will further strengthen the coalition and add new ideas to the government,” Johnny added.

With the latest development, President Jokowi now has the backing from seven of nine parties in the 575-member House of Representatives.

The coalition brings together 471 House seats or 81 percent of overall lawmakers, a supermajority never seen before in the post-Soeharto era.

That leaves the Social Justice Party (PKS) and the Democratic Party in the opposing site.

But even before PAN’s arrival, the government was already in a comfortable position with three biggest parties -- the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Golkar Party and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) -- unifying their support for the government at the beginning of Jokowi’s second term in late 2019.

However, the coalition could break up easily ahead of the 2024 legislative and presidential elections as Jokowi already reaches the constitutional limit that bars him from being nominated for another term.
For any party or coalition of parties to nominate a presidential candidate, it must have at least 20 percent of House seats. No party has met the threshold and their struggle to nominate a candidate will represent the most political dynamic of the Indonesian democracy two or three years from now when they begin to build a coalition.

Things can change very rapidly and dramatically in the Indonesian politics.

The Gerindra Party, for example, was once considered as Jokowi’s fiercest opposition with its chairman Prabowo Subianto becoming his sole challenger in the last two presidential elections.

The party joined the government coalition after Jokowi, in a reconciliatory move, appointed Prabowo as defense minister in October 2019.
