Afghanistan president Ashraf Ghani is likely to step down, according to unconfirmed reports. The move comes as the Taliban tightened their territorial stranglehold around Kabul with the country’s second- and third-largest cities having fallen into the insurgents’ hands.
Sources told News18 that the move is part of an ‘urgent ceasefire’ that the government had tried to strike with the Talibans, in lieu to bringing deadly strikes to a halt.

Ghani is said to address the nation on Saturday and may announce his resignation during the speech, sources said, adding that the president may leave for some “third country" along with all his family members after quitting. Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president of Afghanistan, however is not keen on the move.

I hope India will take their best mate

Yes people think he is stupid for making a blunder despite being Head of CIA. He had resigned from his position as Head of CIA after his extra-marital affairs with Paula Broadwell had surfaced during FBI investigations when Paula Broadwell had access to his confidential emails and was monitoring another woman that she thought was competing for her spot.

Paula Broadwell had also co-authored his biography titled "All In: The Education of General David Petraeus".

When Ashraf Ghani came to power he sounded so conciliatory toward Pakistan to the point that Indians were annoyed by him. Ghani sounded so much better than stupid Karzai who breathed fire against not just Pakistan but also his employers the Americans!
It will be good that he resigns. End the damn war. Afghans have suffered enough.

He thought that sweet words without offering anything substantial would be enough to placate Pakistan. It might have worked in that past but this time around we were not having it thankfully.

Good news if true, it means negotiations are finally being taken a little more seriously. Or perhaps the panic has reached epic proportions.

Good joke, bro. Countries that are occupied and ravaged by a foreign power are not exactly victorious in the battlefield. This is a matter of 'shame' instead but how many feel it?

US-led forces under Bush (Senior) defeated Iraq in a war fought over Kuwait in 1991. Iraq lost much of its military might in this war. This was a solid American military victory in the battlefield.

US-led forces under Bush (Junior) invaded and occupied Iraq in only 21 days in another war fought in 2003. This was another solid American military victory in the battlefield.

US-led forces dismantled Iraqi Ba'ath regime, and disbanded the original Iraqi army as well. This development is called "De-Baathification of Iraqi Society." Saddam Hussein was executed and his sons were also killed separately.

Iraq plunged into a period of darkness with internal strife, militancy and proxy warfare however. Militants in Iraq normalized suicide attacks and use of IEDs as well. US-led forces suffered heavy casualties in these times but managed to restore order in 2008 and Obama could withdraw them in 2011.

Some of the former Iraqi security officials saw an opportunity to regain power and colluded with regional Al-Qaeda affiliates to establish ISIS in 2013.

US-led forces returned to Iraq under Obama in 2014 to dismantle ISIS across Iraq and Syria respectively. This mission was concluded in 2019 by Trump - one of the biggest COIN success stories.

There was no plan to topple Assad regime in Syria; Obama and Putin had an understanding in this regard.

While lands of Muslims burned, American Private Contractors and Military Industrial Complex earned good money.

Nothing to rejoice in the above TBH.

Afghanistan is a war-torn region where Foreign powers come and go as they please. Is it even fair to declare and perceive Afghanistan as a country in current times? It is more like a graveyard of Empires then being a functioning country.

Afghan Taliban recovered because American Presidents were unable to FIX Afghanistan. Trump saw it fit to make a deal with Afghan Taliban instead. Biden had no room to maneuver afterwards.

Afghan Taliban negotiated their way to victory which is impressive as well.

Muslims really need to develop credible conventional warfighting capabilities instead. It is much more satisfactory and honorable to stop a potential invasion on the borders instead of having your land ravaged by occupation and then talk your way to victory.

When Pakistani Govt and Armed forces were asking them to come to the table and lets have an all inclusive dialogue, these bastards did not listen. They did not agree to any demands of Taliban. Taliban were agreeing to talks given that Ashraf ghani steps down. Because they do not accept him as a legitimate elected leader. They consider him a puppet, a stooge. No flexibility was shown, they relied on the strength of their propaganda hoping that they will be able to retain control.

Unfortunately the result of inflexibility is war and suffering of Afghans. I have heard taliban's spoke person's interview on NDTV. A lot of propaganda around Talibans. Ground realities are different. The only force remaining in Afghanistan seem to be the taliban. The Afghan nation has to come together to lead this chaos towards a political settlement.

Not bad.

This is the issue when leaders are parachuted from abroad. History has shown imported leaders create more problems and compound the prevailing problems.
When situation gets out of hand, the best explanation is:

Instead of explaining what Americans have done in 20 years and what tangible steps they took to bring peace, blame Pakistan!!

They had been there f*cking 20 years. Thats the best explanation they have?
