Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Kashmir: A Grand Bargain?

I dont see how on earth China will care about Indian presence in Afghanistan from the security and defence point of view. China will have a bit of competition in buying mines and other precious metals available in China. But for that it makes no difference whatsoever.

India has a defensive posture against China and not a offensive posture. It does not intent to provoke China and I think same is the case with China. As two powers with maturity and a part of the BRIC block, defence against China is far fetched.

India has all but acknowledged its "look east" policy. Who do you suppose it is aimed at countering? What makes you think India won't look "north west" also at some point?

Facts? When have we been defeated? Right now we are being defeated, we have been defeated for the last 40 years, what else do you want. And yet we have got another person from the neighbouring country praising us for our stupidity, that is whwat your enemy can do to you, to keep on persuading you for all the wrongs again and again.

Are we talking about the same Afghanistan here?? The only people that are being defeated are the cowards with their modern weaponry that are now abandoning the country because they can't win, they are loosing soldiers left right and centre

The Look east policy is again to safeguard our interests. We want to improve our exports. India is looking at Africa and Asian countries to double its exports in the next 3 years. About China, our interests conflict with each other in the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea. No conflict in Afghanistan.

Yes, Pakistan is waiting for this civil war from ages. But the fact remains that it is Pakistan that is in a bad shape when compared to India atleast at this point of time.

Yes it would be, if the west pump billions of dollars in Pakistan's banks then maybe we'd have a few flashy lollywood studios, and some flashy new buildings with call centres

.
Finally your talking some sense. India is being used by the west to counter both China and Pakistan but NO Pakistan is not fighting this so-called war on terror that's what it's portraying to do. Not only is India being used economically to counter China, it's being used militarily to counter the nuclear power of Pakistan.

You seems to have reading comprehension problem

I think this article by Foreign Policy has some sensible ideas. I know my Pakistani fellows are likely to have a knee-jerk negative reaction with the LoC=IB proposal but I think we need to consider everything rationally. The goal is peace and prosperity in the region, including for Kashmiris. I think there are enough incentives offered to all to give this article some serious consideration.
Meengla, You're one of the few who think on the lines of a Paksitan-India detente. Peaceniks are few and far between. I wish there were more people who prefer peace and prosperity rather than hostilities which have resulted in nothing but misery not only for the people of Pakistan but India too. Imagine those billions which are being spent on defence (and on nukes on both sides that will never be used), instead being used to provide education, healthcare, infrastructure and more food on the table for the have-nots.

But the reality is that there are no statesmen on either side who can take the bull by the horns to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution. However, the way forward is to first sanitize the constituencies on either side to accept a mutually agreeable solution. And that means the hawks and vested interests on both sides who are hell bent on keeping hostilities alive as it serves their purpose and nefarious designs.

It's a tough road ahead, but the problem isn't insurmountable. Where there's a will there's a way!

Cheers!

Thank you for acknowledging but be more specific. BTW it's 'seem' and you have missed the 'a'. It should read 'You seem to have a reading comprehension problem. I mean if we're going into details let's go into details.

Good that you have picked my mistakes, now I suggest you improve your reading comprehension skills, so that you can answer properly

When did India get any morals? Illegally occupying Kashmir without the will of the Kashmiris and against the UN resolutions is morally incorrect ! ! ! Give Kashmir to the people of Kashmir, let them have a referendum to determine what they want

Ok i will indulge you for a bit, listen precious, i was talking about Pakistan being down on self belief because of constant challenges on various fronts like economy, security and bad PR internationally etc. You are going on a tangent by talking about morals.

In that post of mine you found only this sentence and that too you twisted it to suit your grand statement on Kashmir??

What specifically are you asking? I may not be as intellectual (hypothetically speaking, just to make you happy) as you are so make it clear and I will in turn make the answer even clearer as you don't seem that quick

Okay ignoring the issue regarding the mis-understanding, you didn't really indulge in anything. Please answer why the Kashmiri's don't have the right to a say?

About China, our interests conflict with each other in the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea.

Exactly what "interests" would those be, besides the oil in the Spratly Islands? That's leaving aside the fact that the SC Sea dispute is between regional countries. India is nowhere in the picture.

No conflict in Afghanistan.

Yes, the issue is the CARs and their resources. Although, if the projections about Afghan resources are borne out, that could also change.

Whether Pakistan can match India even in this area is huge question. West uses Pakistan in its War on Terror, while West needs India for its markets, as counter wait to China and for its money. Simple propaganda won't do. Propaganda has to meet the ground realities.

Read my post. There is a difference between 'uses' and 'needs'
