Afghanistan fires 7 mortar shells inside Pakistan

PESHAWAR: According to Pakistani officials at least seven mortar shells were fired from the Afghan soil which landed in the border area of Ghulam Khan in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday afternoon.

The security officials confirmed the shelling by unidentified people believed to be Afghan security personnel, did not incur any casualties to local residents.

The shelling, according to the sources, continued for several minutes. The mortar shells were fired from Tarkhobi area in Afghanistan’s Khost province.

Cross-border shelling has heightened tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan as the two countries accuse each other of firing.

Islamabad has been repeatedly asking Kabul to stop cross-border shelling, the Afghan officials however denies any involvement and blames Pakistan for violating border sovereignty.

Local officials said dozen people including security personnel have been killed or injured following missiles attacks by Afghan National Army and Afghan militants during the past months.

Local authorities in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan at least 4 Afghan civilians were killed or injured following missile attack from Pakistan last week.
The officials added at least 12 missiles were fired in Sarkano district, leaving an Afghan woman dead and 3 children injured.
Local officials are saying at least 60 people have been killed or injured following missiles attacks by Pakistan military during the past 9 months.

@Abu Zolfiqar you ignored the above part of article. The article says mortars were fired by unidentified people from khost. Also it is strange that Pakistan is denying any shelling of Afghan villages of kunar even though they do it in broad day light.

Pay these tribal militias like mercenaries and they would surely go there for "sight seeing". But i think pak army should do the dirty job itself.
