We have American soldiers who are Muslims. We have ANA who are Muslims being killed by other Muslims. We have Pakistanis killed by the Taliban so I don't think you should start looking at the U.S. as the Taliban's only enemy here. Maybe the Pakistanis should leave Pakistan otherwise the Taliban will kill more.

Whenever someone point out american's mistakes why you guys suddenlly bring muslim against muslim to defend yourself, Here we are not talking about Taliban.. We are discussing about respect.. American did a blunder when they had started to use a term Islamic terroism and few U.S nationalist starts call Taliban to their local common muslims. I'm talking about 2003 to 2008 period.. You talk about respect and the good image of Muslims that is supposed to be tarnished by the Americans (2003-2008), but where was the respect and the good image when the Taliban blew up those Buddha statues, back in 2000? Taliban did not even apologize to the Buddhists and others whose sentiments and beliefs were hurt. Yet the same Taliban are demanding the public hanging of those culprits who have (unintentionally?) burned kopies of the Quran .

Not that I'm saying American soldiers are good at cultural dealings.

The taliban who the west deserted after the Soviets withdrew were facing sanctions. Afghan children were dying and nobody was helping them. Instead of helping the people they were investing money to the statues. They blew up the statues in protest. Do you think Bhuddhists genuinely care about statues or humanity?

The Taliban officially said that they were clueless as to why the west was concerned about the Afghan's heritage, when they were cleary destroying the Afghan's future.

Are you trying to equate the americans with the taliban? they destroyed statues... well usa created them... heck even invade their country and disposed their govt...........as for blasphemy.... tht hurts 1.65 billion muslims not just taliban... I don't why so many people say America deserted the Taliban when the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, cause those Taliban were then most likely in their diapers. The only one who have deserted the Taliban are the Pakistani government and the Saudi's who withdrew their support after 9-11, because they were feeling the heat.

That's what the Taliban said. To get some public support on their stand. This a classical example of propaganda. Even if it was true, why destroy objects which mean a lot to so many people who have nothing to regarding the situation of the Afghan children?

Why not? Who are you to judge the sentiments of others? It's okay for you to judge other people's feelings, but when some dumb Americans hurt your own sentiments, they should have taken that into account? Isn't that hypocritical?

On the side note, it doesn't seem that honorable that captured Taliban used Qurans to send hidden messages and codes to fellow inmates. If the Taliban were doing that, as the Americans have claimed, they themselves have mistreated the Quran, by turning their holy book into a tool of deceit. Yet the Taliban seem to have no problem with this act.

Of course they were clueless. Why would cultural barbarians not be surprised, giving the fact that their world view and their concept of man is limited to their narrow minded and rigid interpretation of Islam?

In fact, Afghanistan would have had a shining future under Taliban. One of the world's highest rates of infant and child mortality, worst track records regarding women rights, starving their own people because they would refuse to take food from the UN, completely ruining the country with their economical policies, and impose their ideology with violence and deaths on the Afghan people, not to mention killing of Shia's and other minorities.

USA did not create Taliban. They supported Afghans, just as Pakistan and other countries did, in the eighties during the Soviet occupation. Taliban appeared later in the 90's.

I never defended such acts. I clearly state the American military dealings with cultural sensitivities is flawed. You seem to miss that point.
