Aero India: Photos of Re-designed AMCA

Design looks absolutely nice. Covered engine parts, flat belly, and f22 like front shape will give pretty less RCS. I guess to make a comparable 5th gen fighter we need to fairly see what we are capable to make. and later rest technological help should be incorporated from our other projects.

Why dont we go for Saturn AL-31 engine with 142 KN of thrust. We are already producing Engine for MKi under Licence production. With 2 x AL-32 AMCA will have almost 280 KN of thrust. which will give it enough power to be in league of 5th gen.

We must incorporate the technology we have access to with RAFAEL, Pak Fa , Mki for Radar, ECM suite and other sensors.

Please discuss more inputs what you guys would like to see

^^ yeah make it little bigger and put two FGFA engine.

Thats what I want to say. Difference in Dimention between GE414 and Al31 is 1 meter in lenth and 200 mm in diameter. Making such small change is not a big headache. But imagine our fighter jet will have 280 KN of thrust. Comparable to any other 5th gen fighter. otherwise GE414 engine will keep it like 190 KN.

We should keep researching our engine I am not against it. but Engine delay should not plague the project. The AMCA should fly without delays. We can Incorporate 100% indegenization later.

No, change in engine also require too much change in a/c. Size difference is too much b/w GE414 & Al31. If we chose one it will be nearly impossible to change design. You can see it in LCA & Sitara.

is it only me or somebody else thinks the tail end part looks not so pretty ?

Design is only on Paper now. nothing is finalized. Size of LCA was increased from mk1 to mk 2 by more thn a meter. If changes can be made from one varient to Another thn it can easily be made when Plane is on CAD images only.

I do not know if we only have to import Engine Why the heck we are intending to make 4++ gen fighter ? Why not true 5th gen ?

we can expect licence production and TOT on engine from Russia as we will be getting the same for Pak Fa. With American engine you can't even expect to unscrew it.

I am not asking you to change engine in mid project. I am suggesting to Choose AL31 in initial stages.

true. but exposed engine looks more ugly to me. BTW do you think air intake shape is little odd. At high angle of attack the air that will enter will be torbulant or simply no Air. I mean to say front shape should be like this \____ not like /___

You have good point here. But my idea is different. Right now ADA already chose the engine or engine parameters & nearly complete the design. They design AMCA around it, which took ~2 years. Now if they gonna change engine today, than there will be delay in whole program, which is untolerable.

Sir,
Although not much is known about FGFA deal but if India is shouldering equal cost with Russia, the same powerplant can be used for AMCA as well.

No it can't the one is a heavy class engine aimed roughly twice the power that would be needed for AMCA, while Kaveri is a light class engine, estimated around 90kN for AMCA. So unless AMCA is going to be a single engine fighter, both will use different engines.

Look at the size of the air-intakes, dont you think they are a bit smaller (like Jaguar's) compared to other similar designs? Wouldnt this limit the aircrafts ceiling? Or is the aircraft designed primarily for a ground attack role (as a replacement for the MiG-27s and Jaguars - the original intended purpose for AMCA)?

This is still just a very early model so speculating at this point won't help us, but as I said before, AMCA won't have any advantage over FGFA in the strike role.

.

What bad in having more power ? It will be able to carry more fuel and weapons. will be able to super cruise. GE414 dont even have thrust vectoring.

More power means more fuel burn. That means lower the range, high manufacturing cost, high operational cost & also maintenance headache.:azn:

It's not only more power, it's far bigger! Besides that it might not even fit into AMCA in a twin engine config, it will limit the available space for internal fuel and weapons, not the other way around.

Mate, air intake shape is quite similar to F-22 .IMO,it won't starve Engines at high AOA.

These gaps are called diverters,it prevents creations of irregular, turbolent flow inside airintake thus preventing stalls&flameout at VERY AOA.

F-35,J-20 Have DSI(Diverterless supersonic inlet) to replace diverters vacancy.

Actually it's more and evolution of the LCA intake / diverter design, you can also see the same air exits in both designs:
