"In 2018, the Bangladeshi Air Force sent a delegation to conduct a field survey of the performance of the J-10C. Then, Bangladesh became the first country to express the intention to purchase the aircraft."

This is after Rohingya crisis of 2017 and from a Chinese source.

Ties up with the information @Michael Corleone has been saying for some time.

Surely J-10C contract is only a matter of time now to give BAF an aircraft that can face anything that Indian Air Force has, including Rafale.

with laughable military purchase budget that's seperate from the defence budget... i don't see them getting anything without loans or credits anytime soon

Well 16 J-10Cs with full support package of weapons, training, maintenance and infrastructure could be as little as 1.5 billion US dollars, it is very much affordable even with the procurement budget BD has. More planes can be purchased few years down the line.

yes but take into consideration they split three ways and most of the time it's the ary and navy that gets a bulk of that share...
anyways i hope anything comes
i've heard that 5 squadrons are being planned now instead of 10
and replacing existing fleet while building up 5 squadrons in 10 years seems impossible task at current rate

Only planes and weapons would come from the procurement budget. Training and infrastructure and maintenance would come from the operations side. So looking at half the quoted figure that BAF would need to pay over a period of 3-4 years.

The 10-C jets are operated by China-made WS-10 engines. Because of the lack of maturity, it is not yet as suitable as European, Russian or American engines. The WS-10 series has suffered from persistent problems with engine life, mean time between failures and throttle-spool response time. While it has improved sufficiently to enter quantity production for later J-10Bs and J-11s, the Russian AL-31FN Series 3 developed for the J-10B is still a superior engine on almost all metrics.

BAF top-up professionals are certainly aware of the unreliability of the WS-10C engine and will certainly think twice before sending an order. We should buy planes from other reliable sources including American after considering the geopolitics on the Rohingya issue. We should not kiss the hands that caused us to be burdened with a million+ refugees.

That means they are looking into more expensive options.

There was never any plan to raise 10 squadrons. Another piece of hoax propagated from the usual source.

In 2013, AM Ziaur Rahman revealed BAF's "aspiration (not even goal)" is to have six fighter squadrons in service in total (old+new) by 2030.

The way BAF function, have they ever looked serious enough to work towards procuring 10 fighter squadrons?

That immature internet clown has too big of an ego to admit reality.

I do not know who you are referring to but BAF published forces goal 2030 explicitly mentions the goal of 10 operational squadrons. Link is somewhere within this thread.

I would agree BAF inaction suggests it was not worth the paper it was written on.

I still think that 10 squadrons by 2030 is possible - 9 would actually be required since the 16 F-7BGIs would still be in service.

As well as BAF incompetence, we must not forget that buying modern fighter aircraft is extremely expensive.
BN over the last 10 years has been buying large combatants like frigates and submarines 2nd hand. Only smaller combatants like the Type-056 corvette and patrol vessels like Durjoy class have been brought brand new. Only in 2017 did BN publicly announce the plan to spend many billions of US dollars up to 2030 to procure 8 next-gen frigates. Government back in 2009 prioritised the Navy due to the criticality of security BD's maritime boundary and so no surprise Navy had undergone the most expansion out of the 3 services.

As long as the economy grows 7-8% a year till 2030, then there should be no financial impediment to BAF having 10 squadrons that are a Western/Chinese mix. Chinese fighters like J-10C will be substantially cheaper to procure than Western ones.
