A Plan that Bangladesh Air Force could have Followed

Bangladesh now has the resources to build a much better equipped military but no will.

It should be aiming by the end of this decade to have:

100 4+ generation aircraft
4-5 AWACS
2 destroyers
6 frigates.
4 submarines
200 modern battle tanks
24 attack helicopters

The cost will come to around 15 billion dollars

Over 10 years it is affordable without diverting many funds from other areas such as health, education and infrastructure.

If bal/bnp race of looting stops, it's achievable provided we are on a strong leadership.

Personally I think 50-60 4.5 gen fighters will do for a force like BAF. The F-7s can compliment those
for another 10-15 years. Mig35 is out of question since it still a prototype. We can go for more
mig29s. But we should divert the source and go for Gripens and chinese fighters. Even after awami
dalals get ousted, we won't be able to get J10s till 2020. May be we can also look into the TFX and
KFX being developed by turkey and korea.

KFX is actually a very interesting plane. I don't know why it never came to my mind. We should consider it. In fact, there is a thread about it:
http://www.defence.pk/forums/air-wa...er-aircraft-south-korea-indonesia-images.html

Also, the Gripen is powered by an American engine. So there'd be strings attached.

I'd say, package of Gripens + Erieye (AWACS) would be technically optimal for Bangladesh given that wallet allows it.

And given that deals are transparent, avoid wasteful spending (example: quick rental plants) and corruption reduced.

The FC-20 is a nice plane, and most importantly, it is coming from a very reliable supplier.

Su-30 (according to Wikipedia). Hey, at least it looks good.

But I prefer if we go for something else. F-15s are damn expensive. Hey, those Chinese flankers don't look bad though :P

. . .
That's the hard part. The politics of Bangladesh is no place for gentlemen. But we shall see....
You mean, those who starve your population, divert resources from welfare and economic growth and engage in buying arms which does not match the threat perception, is patriotism?

The grippen is nice and also cost effective but as you said its has American tech and the same
may be the case with KFX. But I believe both the TFX and KFX will be the least costly 5th gen
fighters when they will be rolled out, so it makes perfect sense for us. And the chinese won't
give us FC20 under this gov, and they already have their hands full with PLAAF and PAF's
demands.

Are you referring to india by any chance?

You are unrealistic. TFX and KFX are still in drawing board. You need to wait till 2025 before they are available for export market. You are not getting any Chinese fighter other than F-7 before 2017. What will you do? You can buy F-16 or Migs or Sukuis or Giphen. I dont have any problem with any of those fighters. There must be a reason why our AF are pushing for Sukuis, and that is the best among 4 and anybody will agree that.

Or your best bet would be keep upgrading F-7 and pray to allah.

Gripen is a good plane nonetheless. Complete with the Eireye package.

But I think the BAF's strategy for acquiring more MiG-29s and complementing with Su-30s is feasible. Remember, China still use a lot of weapons from Russia.

KFX - we should consider it as a 5th generation model in the future. And it's still in the drawing board.

Although, BAF should weight that option carefully. There was one case in which an F-18 Growler (a 4.5G plane specializing in electronic warfare) actually beat an F-22 Raptor during an exercise.

Let's not open a can of worms now :undecided:

I never said KFX or TFX is an imminent possibility. We will ultimately go for 5th gen fighters
some point in after 2025/2030 and KFX and TFX may be our best bet considering costs.
How do you know they are pushing for sukois? Nothing is confrimed yet. I told you why I feel shkoi
not good considering our possible threat perception. The only realistic ones I see is the migs
and may be f-16 if we accept the hands the US extended to us recently, which I don't think will
be a good idea. And the chinese will sell J-10 provided we earn their trust, and even if they sell it,
it will be after 2020.

Whatever we buy, praying to Allah(swt) is a must. Everything happens according to the will of Allah(swt).

We are not china and china uses the Su27 flanker not su30. Have you ever heard of Russians
going for F-15s (hypothetically). You know what I am implying to.

And as for KFX and TFX , both will be a success I think. They are doing it in joint venture and have access to
western tech. TFX will be developed with collaboration of Saab.

Let's not open a can of worms now :undecided:

He was the one who was trying to troll, intentionally.

Thats what UKBengali suggested, read his post again. :)

No

And if you were to read my post, it clearly states that it would be possible to make Bangladesh into a very decent military without diverting any real money from education, health and infrastructure.

Look, BD is no longer a dirt poor country(yes it is still poor) but it can afford to construct a military that even India will find is no longer a walk in the park. The will is required which seems to be lacking.

If you still disagree, please use statistical data to back up your argument because I sure can use them in abundance to back up my argument.

In my humble opinion by 2025 :

- Around 5 squadrons (5x14 = 70 birds) of Mig-29 SMT or an even advanced version !

- Around 6 batteries of HQ-15 !

- Around 4-5 batteries of HQ-18 !

- Around 2-3 dozen HQ-7s !

- Around a dozen SPADA 2000 !
