not every situation has chance to eject.
It is till now not clear what cause the crash

Wasn't it a Shenyang J8 that has collided with the American EP-3 in 2001? Even then, the J-8 pilot had died. Any issues with it's ejection systems, perhaps?

2001 EP-3 event, the location at the South China Sea. J8's pilot ejected but can't survive on the sea.
