The ( Pak) has been added by me.

I didnt know PAF was still being used, here too there have been deaths due to collateral damage.

So why the fuss with US drones - they too target the militants with similar results.

8 killed as jets hit rebels hideouts in Tirah

TIRAH VALLEY: At least eight militants including two civilians were killed and 12 other wounded on Wednesday in air strikes made by Pakistani Jet Planes here in Aka Khel a far flung area of Tirah valley, Tehsil Bara Khyber Agency.

Sources said that at morning time Pakistani Jet fighters pounded hideouts of the militants and inflicted heavy life loss to militants.

"Six militants were killed and twelve others wounded" sources said adding that four strongholds of the militants were demolished in the operation,

Local and official sources while confirming civilian's casualties during operation were identified as Aimal Khan and Bashir Khan and four others sustained injuries in the fresh strikes.

"A wave of terror spread in the local tribesmen the air strikes as three houses are also damaged in the strikes" sources said.

However, till filing of this report militants' did not confirm the any life losses they received in fresh strikes.

It is mention worthy here that operation against militants was carried out in the time when they started targeting policemen and local people in Peshawar and its surrounding areas which killed many people along with a senior police official the other day.

Fuss is over breach of sovereignty and the fact that Pakistani people support their army which is not in case of US attacks. Why would you allow a foreign country to cross the international border and attack the bases if they can provide the intelligence and ask PA to take action ?

The problem with information sharing is also a problem as US has openly said that just after they provided the info to Pakistan, the militants left the place.

This lack of confidence and foreign hand is the problem base. No one will allow foreigners to target the extremists and cause collateral damage much more than what the locals can do.

So things are not in black and white but in large portion of grey.

For Pakistan unfortunately it's that old saying, 'damned if you do, and damned if you don't'! What are the alternatives to strafing militant hideouts deep inside hostile terrain? None!

Point taken.

But the drones are hitting in regions that have traditionally never been under the control of GOP. The PA too as we see is reluctant to go there & is dragging its feet on one pretext or another.

The baddies operate from there & need to be hit for they are damaging Pak as much as any other nation - maybe more.

It may be a good idea to show the PAF actions to be in concert with the Drones.

Since I am unaware of the geography & topography of the region in question , I may be wrong.

This is unbelievable. Pakistan military is aerial bombing its own people. Even the Indian military didn't use the air power in Kashmir during the height of militancy in 1990's.

Drones are violation of Pakistan's sovereignty...

Who said we are using them against our own people? Sure there is a risk of accidently killing few but the real intentions are against terrorists who have come from Afghanistan...

2 civillians were killed but what can we say, air attacks always have some kind of glitches. Real intentions are against Militants who have come from Afghanistan. The attack occured in Tirah, which is right on the border line:

KRAIT's post sums up beautifully, the reason why Pakistanis would prefer inaccurate PAF air strikes over highly accurate drone strikes any day.......

It's the separatists who are pushing this line, needless to say they will peddle propaganda that suits their interests. The Taliban claim that polio drops contain everything from pig's bile to Bush's urine, do you think there is any element of truth to that allegation?

Allowing a foreign country to bomb targets in another country is a serious violation of sovereignty. Terrorists or not. I dont even understand how the Pakistani establishment let this happen. Would we allow America to bomb targets in Kashmir???? To support this US violation of Pakistan's sovereignty is stupid.

That's because we don't have an establishment. What we have are a bunch of puppets being puppeteers.

No, what we have is an area out of the govt's control. How can the GoP or Army stop drones in NWA when the region is not even in their control? Keep in mind that the drone attacks have almost exclusively been limited to NWA for the past two years because it remains the only militant stronghold in Pakistan.
