Nearly 700 scientists quit DRDO in six years:

New Delhi, Dec 5, 2012 (PTI):

Nearly 700 scientists have resigned from India's premier military research body DRDO in little less than six years from 2007, Defence Minister A K Antony said today.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on resignation of scientists from Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO), Antony said a total of 637 scientists resigned during 2007-2011 and 50 scientists up to October 31 this year.

Scientists who had resigned have either cited personal or domestic reasoms for leaving DRDO, Antony said.

However, it is assumed that increased opportunities or incentives available in other organisations and industries is the main reason of such resignation, he added.

On incentives taken as corrective measures to restrict resignation of scientists from DRDO, Antony said excellent infrastructure facilities have been created at work places and residential complexes and two additional increments have been given on promotion to each grade.

To another question, Antony said DRDO is a subordinate organisation under Defence Ministry and does not enjoy any special powers or autonomy because of its strategic nature of work.

Asked whether DRDO enjoys a huge amount of autonomy because of its strategic nature of work, he said, "DRDO is a subordinate organisation under the Department of Defence( R&D) in Defence Ministry and is governed by central government rules and regulations.
"Therefore, DRDO as an organisation does not enjoy any special powers or autonomy because of its strategic nature of work."

Revised delegation of financial powers of Director General of DRDO was carried out in 2010 to address a long standing requirement and was done after due process and deliberation, he said.

"The process of exercise of these powers has been further rationalised and a corrigendum has been issued by Department of Defence (R&D) on November 21, 2012 as a partial modification to the earlier financial powers," the minister added.

They quit a job not the country. Good for them. Private sector jobs pays more. DRDO needs to increase its pay outs.

would be nice to know what % of turnover this is i.e. its around 116 per year . But % is it of the total employment base.

Isn't that the story of all PSUs in India.. ?

And btw, Bangalore is one of the most costliest cities in India.. the pay scientists get in DRDO is not enough to survive in a city like Bangalore..

damn, a decent food will cost you easily 600-800 bucks per head which is atrocious !!! Everything from Bus Fares and Auto fares are so expensive in Bangalore.. ( yes and I have lived in Delhi for more than 15 years ) ..

And you won't get those road side stalls selling really good stuffs which is the case in Mumbai and Delhi.. Only BRANDED stuffs..

Also, a movie show ticket for a decent release will hover around 400-700 bucks in PVR/INOX etc.. damn I can get a BSNL unlimited 4 MBps broadband for that amount and download sh!t loads of movies..

I dont know about present rates but all those karnataka style bisabella rice etc breakfast/lunch used to cost Rs.1.50 at ADA in last decade.

Yes, true story. Professor of electromagnetism in my ex-college worked with DRDO, mainly in the project of Ground Penetrating Radar. Left it and joined my college for greater monetary profit. Still active in some projects of DRDO, mainly in radar dept.

That's quite understandable but surely Bangalore is not exactly Beverly Hills, common low income folks live and survive in all major cities around the globe.!!

Unfortunately, lot of them do quit the country. Come to west.

Not a Good sign!

Goverment needs to increase the pay of DRDO scientists, so that they wont leave the organisation because of financial reason.

Bhai Gher to sabko chalana padta hai, mehngai ka jamana hai.

Though i do not agree that they leave job for better food and everyday services. As Gov. jobs have almost everything at the least price you can expect. They have free housing , bills, food at as low as 5 rupees a plate.

They are leaving coz private companies are opening up in defence sector and with higher salaries. Everyone has got their dreams and they are not bounded labor . The ultimate looser is DRDO , either they come up with better package for them or roll red carpet for private players in every defence sector.

u call bisabella bath for breakfast and lunch and dinner as a decent meal ? LMAO..

Yes bangalore is not beverly hills and yes "low income people" do survive in all major cities.. BUt "those scientists" didn't study for 10+ years after school only to eat bisabella bath (rice) in lunch dinner and breakfast all around the year !!

I am almost certain half of them took huge loans to be there where they are now.. so why on earth will they work there ?
