Man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS), commonly described as shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, are surface-to-air missiles that can be carried and fired by a single individual or carried by several individuals and fired by more than one person acting as a crew. Most MANPADS consist of: (1) a missile packaged in a tube; (2) a launching mechanism (commonly known as a “gripstock”); and (3) a battery.

MANPADS launch tubes typically range from about 4 feet to 6 1/2 feet (1.2 to 2 meters) in length and are about 3 inches (72 millimeters) in diameter. Their weight, with launcher, ranges from about 28 pounds to just over 55 pounds (13 to 25 kilograms). They are easy to transport and conceal. Some of the most commonly proliferated MANPADS can easily fit into the trunk of an automobile.

Although superficially similar in appearance, MANPADS should not be confused with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). RPGs are also portable and shoulder-fired. However, RPGs are unguided weapons designed primarily to be used against ground targets and are generally ineffective against aircraft, except at very close range. Some RPG attacks on low-flying aircraft have been mistaken for MANPADS attacks.

Jerusalem, August 18 (TruthDive): Assailants armed with heavy weapons, guns and explosives launched three attacks in quick succession in southern Israel on Thursday killing at least six people,” officials said.

The attacks began when gunmen fired at an Israeli bus that was travelling near the Egyptian border. Then a military patrol and a private car were attacked. The military said a “large number” of assailants were working in multiple squads. Channel 10 TV reported a fourth attack, but there was no official confirmation or details.

The military spokesman’s office said a roadside bomb was detonated when a military patrol arrived at the scene of the bus attack and drove over the device. It is the first major attack on Israel’s border with Egypt for several years. “We have specific and concrete information that these terrorists came out of Gaza,” said Mark Regev, spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli officials said the gunmen came from the Gaza Strip and had entered Israel through Egypt’s Sinai desert.

“The real source of the terror is in Gaza and we will act against them with full force and determination,” said Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. In Egypt, a senior security official denied that the attackers crossed into Israel from the Sinai Peninsula or that the buses were fired at from inside Egyptian territory.

There has been concern about a decline in security in Sinai since Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was toppled in February. The Hamas government in the Gaza Strip denied any connection with the attacks.

Tell me where are Hezbollah headquarters, where are bases, where are rocket stores etc? Hezbollah itself says that they have over 40,000 rockets. Where are they stored? Its clear that they are stored in civilian houses. Dahyeh is area under full control of Hezbollah, state within state, where they dont allow Lebanese army and police to enter.
