The Indian Army has procured 50,000 bullet-proof in the past two years and 186,138 more vests were in the process of being purchased from an Indian manufacturer, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre in a written reply told the house that bullet-proof jackets were being provided to soldiers as per the laid down specifications and authorization.

“The procurement of these jackets for the authorized quantity as per Annual Provisioning Review is an on-going process. In the past two years, 50,000 (such jackets) have been procured for the Indian Army,” the minister said.

"The Indian Army is currently in the advanced stages of the procurement process for ballistic helmets and bullet proof jackets (BPJs) with trials underway. A firm push by defence minister Manohar Parrikar has led to the fast track sanction for the procurement of 50,000 bullet proof jackets (BPJs) and another 50,000 BPJs are to be ordered as a follow-on order. According to the defence ministry’s fast track plan, Indian private companies Tata Advanced Materials and MKU will supply 25,000 bullet proof jackets each. The army is to acquire 3,53,765 BPJs for its units/formations deployed on Line of Control (LC) and during low intensity conflict"

A question to knowledgeable folks. Do we use Kevlar?

Thanks @Robinhood Pandey bro.Am still confused which one of these helmets, army asked for ....

If it's for infantry & is being supplied by MKU, it has to be the Mukut series.

If it's for infantry & is being supplied by MKU, it has to be the Mukut series.

Some details about MKU's Mukut helmets (ACH/MICH-2000 type) -

The MKU Mukut comes with some essential protection & comfort concepts like:

RHT Technology
SHELL WITH BABT LESS THAN 10 MM
The revolutionary RHT Technology within the MUKUT helmet shell strengthens it to protect the head from resultant head injuries, immediate or long term, when hit by a high velocity projectile. It offers behind armour blunt trauma (BABT) of less than 10mm which is nearly 40%* lower in comparison to a standard helmet.
*As tested with a 9mm bullet as per HPW 0401.01b at HP White Labs, USA.

Bolt-Free Shell
NO COMPROMISED AREAS
The No Holes – No Drill technology used in MUKUT helmets ensure zero compromised areas in the helmet shell providing uniform protection across the ballistic shell perimeter, thus eliminating the risk of lethal injuries due to secondary fragments as compared to traditional bolted helmets in situations where the high velocity threat hit the bolts.

Modular Padding Support System (MPSS)
FOR MAXIMUM PROTECTION AND COMFORT
The MPSS in MUKUT helmets is designed to provide maximum stability and comfort. Made using toxins and allergen free materials, it does not allow water or moisture retention over prolonged usage. Its design allows for excellent airflow which helps in heat dissipation and sweat precipitation.

So the Mukut is proper, well-rounded package as far as the platform is concerned. Now, let's see how we can upgrade or enhance it's utility. One of the key points is that this helmet has a Bolt-Free shell so screwing in integration points like side-rails, NVG mounts etc. is not possible. However, MKU has provided a much simpler integration method -

MULTIPLE ACCESSORY CONNECTOR SYSTEM (MACS)
MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY
The all new Multiple Accessory Connector System (MACS) from MKU is a proprietary integrated, all-in-one mounting system for use on MUKUT range of ballistic helmets to mount multiple devices including NVD, Torches, Cameras, Masks and Communication Headsets. Tough and rugged, yet lightweight and flexible it fits seamlessly on MUKUT Helmets, even with gloved hands.

The MACS system provides all the integration options any IA unit would possibly require in the future, without drilling holes in the shell and weakening the helmet's integrity & protection levels.
