5 tonnes of ammonium nitrate seized at Kerala-Tamil Nadu border

Please do not read too much in to this seizure......This is not the first time something like this happened... and this is not going to be the last time..... These ammonium nitrate are used extensively in quarrys of kerala and most of the time these owner's smuggle it to kerala due to the issues the face to procure it.....

But i do agree.... If some one smuggles this and that too a huge quantity...... It can be easily used for destabilising the country...

Reddiff is not a main stream media idiot. Its a web portal. The content in it does not come from them.Use your brain once in a while.Does that reddiff link gives any information about the source??

A web portal is a website that brings information together from diverse sources in a uniform way. Usually, each information source gets its dedicated area on the page for displaying information (a portlet); often, the user can configure which ones to display.

A quarry is a type of open-pit mine from which rock or minerals are extracted. Quarries are generally used for extracting building materials, such as dimension stone, construction aggregate, riprap, sand, and gravel. They are often collocated with concrete and asphalt plants due to the requirement for large amounts of aggregate in those materials.

Now that you know what is quarry, you should know that AN can not be extracted from there. It is manufactured in big Factories as IFFCO:

The chemical compound ammonium nitrate, the nitrate of ammonia with the chemical formula NH4NO3, is a white crystalline solid at room temperature and standard pressure. It is commonly used in agriculture as a high-nitrogen fertilizer, and it has also been used as an oxidizing agent in explosives, including improvised explosive devices. It is the main component of ANFO, a popular explosive. It is used in instant cold packs, as hydrating the salt is an endothermic process.

QUARRY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMMONIUM NITRATE. IT IS MANUFACTURED WITH A PROCESS WHICH REQUIRES AUTOMATED ASSEMBLY UNIT AS IFFCO.

Islamic extremism is growing fast in kerala but sadly so called secular government don't take any action against it

Ya! True , Kerala is in the hands of two devils , LDF & UDF. Urgently need a third option.

They are frequently used in all quarries. Both legal and illegal.Every year 3500 tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate goes missing in India for illegal quarrying.

And Kerala has plenty of such quarries.

Dude, your link cites the usage or the reason for theft as this and not for quarries...the topic of the thread seems to be a grave matter and not just a theft - those must be terrorists transporting AN to make bombs.

According to sources in the security establishment, India imports close to 3.5 lakh tonnes of ammonium nitrate for industrial use. Almost all of this import is done in bulk through the sea route at Vishakhapatnam port. Legally, importers are not questioned on up to 1% spillage of the substance as it is assumed that in bulk transfers, such spillage is unavoidable.

"This is the loophole that is prone to exploitation where unscrupulous elements may sell the chemical to unverified sources during transportation out of ports. Even 1% spillage translates to 3,500 tonnes going missing. To make a bomb, you need not more than a kg of ammonium nitrate," said an intelligence official.

This spillage has assumed critical importance in view of jihadis increasingly preferring ammonium nitrate in their terror attacks. The problem is compounded by the relative ease in assembling these explosives, with ready help from bomb making manuals on ****** websites.

As for Mini Pakistan - that term gets used in slang and I have heard it's usage in many cities.

Here is the link.

KOCHI: Nearly 2,000 consumers of ammonium nitrate, including quarry and crusher owners, in the state will have to apply for new licence within six months as per the ammonium nitrate rules published by the Centre.

Ammonium nitrate was until recently being treated as an innocuous fertilizer ingredient. However, after reports of its use in improvised explosive devices (IED) by terror groups in some of the blasts in the country, it was classified as an explosive. Although this reclassification was done last year, the rules were framed only a couple of days ago.

Fresh rules stipulate new licence for ammonium nitrate users in 6 months - Times Of India

These seizures are very routine in Kerala and TN.They are used in illegal quarries and firework factories.I know some people who own such quarries. They are ****** rich..

There are no big quarries or fire work factories in the entire CBE region that would warrant this much ammonium nitrate.

Plus the quarries which are there mostly use dynamite and not ammonium nitrate.

This was either for some fertilizer or for bombs.

source : Im from that region.

To be frank Kerala in sitting in a volcano for some time.. Some people are actively involved in the anti national activities specially in Malapuram area.. Most of the people are coming back from Gulf and some of them are actively involved in making India too a land of pure.. Not too long ago, 5 people from Kerala got killed by security forces in Kashmir after coming back from their training in one of our neighbouring countries.. Investigation led to an arrest of a guy named Nazir, who was recruiting people for Jehad against India.. There were incidents of Ayyappa devotees got attacked by people and a teacher's hand was amputated by people.. In the surface area everything is clam but under there are lot of tensions going on.. Kerala was not a state as it used to be.. As Muse mentioned in one another post, We should be ready for the purification process which is going on in our neighbouring country

Atlast a voice of fact and not denial.

I studied in Amrita and have contact with plenty of friends from all all parts of Kerala. And one thing they all agree is Hindus or even non-Muslims dont find living in Malappuram that easy.

Kerala is sitting on a dormant volcano getting which may explode any time. And being from a border district we people would be among the first to feel the blow back.

The consignment was entering Tamil Nadu from Kerala and not going into Kerala.

That is a very valid concern considering the proliferation of radical ****** groups in the central & North Kerala region but it seems so many people are still in denial.

A shameful behavior.

It came into existence for the old, walled areas in cities like Hyderabad, Amdavad, certain areas in Mumbai where the people usually celebrate the cricket victory of Pakistan over India. Dont know if that practise is still in vogue.

The consignment was meant to deliver in Palakkad, especially illegal ones that too in plenty. And procurement of dynamite is highly regulated.Illegal quarry owners usually use ammonium nitrate.I know this from direct experience.
