5 signs India won't become an economic power

like it or not india is the third largest PPP economy, so its a major economy and it will go only uphill from here.............. countries can test a single nuclear device and can claim that they are "protectors of the muslim world" and a country with the third PPP economy cant claim itself to be an economic superpower sheeeeeesh ,it has the hungriest population on earth and also has the third highest purchasing power.......

Of course Indian can claim that its a economic superpower and many Indian guys would get a big hard o n. However, the rest of the world understand the reality of Indian backwardness and corruption and are amused by all these unrealistic Indian claims. Check out all these Indian superpower facebook page.

Instead of taking it out on him for speaking truth about India. You should vote in a government that would change what he said.

Nothing is static. India has changed & continues to change. The airports are probably the easiest examples. That, in any case can be easily verified with a little surfing. Same with roads. Some of the newer ones are massive projects & will probably not be easily comparable with the older roads.

Here's a perspective of a German reporter
India at Crossroads on Path to Superpower Status

Poverty is still rampant in India and chaos remains a defining characteristic. But the country is also a global leader in high tech, has become the world's leading weapons importer and is planning a mission to Mars. On the way to superpower status, India must first overcome deep-seated corruption and internal division.

Caution: The article is 3 page long analyzing positives and negatives of Indian growth outlook.

Even with all sorts of problem, no Indian is denying that. However that does not mean that India is not growing.

No one will deny that India faces a million problems. India only had 30 million middle class in 2001 and today it is 370 million. Almost 800 million are yet poor.

You can make 2 conclusions of this statement:
1. Pakistani conclusion: India is poor toiletless nation of 800 million people who don't have enough food or water to drink. Poorer than sub saharan Africa. Which is perfectly right and makes total sense.

2. Indian and world conslusion: If India can grow its middle class to over 10 times in 10 years then in nxt ten years it will grow even more faster due to more economic space and infra being built. Investing here would return more profits. Even with 6-7% economic growth India is expected to have over 900 million middle class by 2027.

Now which prospective you want to see depends on you.

China is today a robust economy. They have built an economy on the principal "Build it they will come". When ever their economy is slowing down they build more. Recently approved 157 billion infra plans. India can't do this. India will always build less than or according demand and this is the right way to do it. This is how the world is built. India will be slower but will eventually achieve its proportional size.

How does India measure middle class? Can a middle class Indian buy a car or own a house. or is anyone who does not live in a slum in India automatically qualify as part of middle class. For example, if anyone has a flushing toilet automatically be categorize as part of middle class even though the person might not afford to hire a motorcycle taxi?

We measure it by people who can buy a car or a motorcycle. Who can study in top institutions. Who can but an apartment or a house or start a buisness. People who live in cities. India is expected to have 180 million internet connections by this year end. and over 400 million by 2015. These things show middle class rise.

Atlest unlike China our people can buy homes...

Indian govt plays cheap to get FDI. A middle class person in India is who earns atleast 36 rs a day. Tthats half a cent....

No you don't. Don't lie. Indian govt measures middle class by seeing who earns more than rs. 36 a day (not even half a cent).

And Im sure its pretty much impossible for India to make its internet population grow so fast... Even China cant do that

Yup I agree 100% lolllllll. To run those phones and internet you need electricty. Which India today produces 200000MW with 80000-100000mw more to be added in nxt 5 yrs.

Pakistan 18000 installed and only 10000 produced.

Even some african countries have interned and phones in all their villages and even sanitation. But a country doesnt become a world power by all this. Pleade braoden your understanding on this issue.

LOL. You are a youngster obsessed with the words like "world power" , "global influence" , "power projection" blah blah... I can understand.

Pakistan's installed capacity is good enough but thanks to corrupt government(s)..we are in a mess...Energy crisis will be taken care of Inshallah... Your india also has power-cuts...don't tell me that you don't have energy problem...So this comparison of electricty generation is a joke.

Plus : Pakistan's installed capacity is way over 18000 MW ...

I was talking about the fact that Pakistan is a way better place to live in as compared with India.

-Pakistan has less poverty as compared with India.
-Pakistani women are safer than their poor indian counterparts , who get raped like its not even a big deal (Delhi is called the world capital of rape)
-More Pakistanis live in Urban centers as compared with India.
-Pakistanis enjoy better telecommunication services than India.
-Pakistan has superior infrastructure than India.
-Pakistanis enjoy better public health conditions than poor average Indians..

And I can go on and on ..Remember..this is when Pakistan is doing the WORST of history while India is doing BEST of its history...YET..average Pakistanis live a better life than average Indians... Pakistani Muslims live a way better life than average Indians ... Compare that with the condition of Muslims of North-Western India before partition..where Hindus controlled Urban economy , industries , trade centers etc..Sikhs controlled most rich lands and agriculture..and Muslims were wayyyyyyyyy down the ladder..Now Muslims control the urban economy , West Punjab agricultural lands , water of Indus , and everything! Muslim rule was establish in North-Western India..and as you can see... A MASSIVE improvement for Muslims..So much so..that average Pakistani Muslims now live a way better life than average Indian... Even though , India had way more resources and less problems at the time of Independence.

Pakistan is a regional power and will remain so... You can't even do jack against Pakistan , forget about your fantasies of 'world-power' ... Tell me where you can project your power? Nepal , Bangladesh , Bhutan? First become the 'sole' regional power of the South Asia before dreaming of fantasies.....
