What's new

43% indians back Modi as next Prime Minister

During NEHRU’s rule – 1950-1964, 263 riots in 16 states occurred.

During INDIRA GANDHI’s rule (1966-1977 and 1980-1984) 337 riots in 15 states have been recorded. And, this is apart from the Khalistani violence and then Sikh Youth cleansing in rural Punjab – a chapter of violence by Congress led Police rule (led by KPS Gill), that no one ever talks about!

During RAJIV GANDHI’s time 291 riots in 15 states have been documented incl. the Sikh massacres of 1984.

Interesting statistics .......... where are the 'secular' Indians demanding justice for the victims ?

Gujarat most improved state in malnutrition

.......CAG Report, using data provided by the ministry of women and child welfare, updates the information to 31 March 2011, and shows a marked improvement for almost all states. And especially Gujarat.

The Gujarat development model of private sector-led growth has been criticised for placing excessive emphasis on growth and less on human development indices.

Gujarat is the most improved state with malnourishment down to 38.77 percent – the sharpest improvement in India. :P So this is as good a time as any to look at whether the growth model is incompatible with human development requirements.

So how does Gujarat fare in these numbers? And the answer is: not badly at all, if one looks at change rather than raw numbers. If one were to rank it, Gujarat would figure somewhere in the middle of the national pecking order in terms of child development, which would seem to partially bear out Narendra Modi’s critics that even with high growth, Gujarat does not seem to care as much for its children as it should.

The truth is the growth versus human development juxtaposition is flawed. Gujarat is neither among the worst nor the best in terms of child malnourishment. In fact, the real laggards are also high-growth states such as Andhra Pradesh (49 percent malnourished), Bihar (82 percent), Haryana (43 percent), Rajasthan(43 percent), and, surprisingly Sheila Dikshit’s rich Delhi (50 percent).

But other high-growth states do well on malnutrition, with Maharashtra having more than 77 percent normal kids (i.e. not malnourished), Madhya Pradesh 72 percent, and Uttarakhand 75 percent.

So clearly it is not the Gujarat growth model that is the cause of the problem.

But a closer look at the numbers tells a different story: a story of huge improvements in Gujarat over the last four years.

As on 31 March 2007, the figure for malnourished children in Gujarat was the highest in the country – at 70.69 percent, well above the national average of 50.1 percent.

But guess what happened by 2011? Gujarat is the most improved state with malnourishment down to 38.77 percent – the sharpest improvement in India. Not only that, Gujarat is now comfortably above the national average on malnourishment at 41.16 percent.

Says the CAG report: “There was substantial decrease in the malnourished children in six states (Gujarat, from 71 to 39 percent); Karnataka (from 53 to 41 percent); Maharashtra (from 45 to 23 percent); Uttar Pradesh (from 53 to 41 percent); Uttarakhand (from 46 to 25 percent): and West Bengal (from 53 to 37 percent).

Clearly, Gujarat has topped in terms of the magnitude of improvements in addressing malnutrition. But there is no reason for it to take it easy. The number of severely malnourished children in this group of 38.77 percent is a high 4.56 percent for Gujarat. Bihar has 26 percent severely malnourished children, but it will be poor consolation for Gujarat, which surely has more resources to deal with the problem......

And 57% supports Rahul Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi wins. :dance3:
Really? Just because 100% - 43% = 57%??? You may be a mathematical genius but don't forget there were others in the poll too, like Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan, Nitish Kumar etc. Each of these had their vote share.

Rahul Gandhi was more like 27%!! :omghaha: Almost half of what Modi polled! :haha:

Cheers!

Any vote for Sonia, Manmohan, Chidambaram, Digvijay will mean a vote for Rahul. :azn:

As i said a few days earlier , YSR will support the congress in the center.

YSR Congress may back congress post-2014 elections - The Economic Times

As to the trs . lets wait and see . they are Joining (according to some) with the nda and bjp a party which even the tdp said it was a mistake to tie up with . Plus the people of telegana are tired of the bandhs which Trs calls frequently . lets wait and see who they join and how they do in the elections. :)
Haunted by past, TDP to stay away from NDA - Times Of India

I support him too but the problem with him is that he is not so popular in North & North-East Indian states.

Advani hints BJP can

Senior BJP leader LK Advani again expressed disillusionment over his own party — when the BJP is getting prepared for the 2014 polls — by saying that although “the mood of the people was against the Congress, they are simultaneously disillusioned” with even his party.

to admire us for the ethos of discipline... However, contrary to this aspiration, the image of the BJP that has gained ground in the past few years, is that of a party with differences,” he said.

The remarks made in an interview with The Week magazine come when senior BJP leaders are trying to push for their nominees to figure in the new team of office-bearers, to be announced by party chief Rajnath Singh around Holi on March 27.

Earlier, at the BJP national council on March 2 in New Delhi, Advani was very critical of the party under Nitin Gadkari.

He had made a similar statement last year at a conclave in Mumbai, saying the BJP had failed to respond to the public mood against corruption when Anna Hazare’s movement was at its peak. He followed it up with a blog article.

Party insiders quickly attributed the outbursts to Advani’s “frustration” with the top BJP leaders.

The “frustration” stems from their refusal to back his candidature for the prime minister's post in the face of strong opposition from the BJP's parent body, the RSS.

He was also upset with the strong cadre support for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. He even praised Sushma Swaraj, comparing her to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to shift the focus away from Modi.

On Saturday, Advani again equated Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with Modi at a function in Shahdol in MP, saying they were "role models for development" when the Congress was mired in corruption.

I am havent decided who to support in 2014, my main area of concern is the economy:

To all Modi supporters: What exactly is Modi`s plan to help the economy? What is his/the BJPs economic policy?

@Koovie Listen to his address to NRIs in Chicago.

1. He talks about Skill Development of youth where GOI has presented 1000 crore scheme for India while Gujrat has budgeted 800 crore.

2. He also urged NRIs to ask other Indians to visit India so that it can boost tourism. Tourism will improve infrastructure and support small scale industries like handloom, art and craft, pottery, paintings etc , Hospitality industry etc.

I have worked on Effect of Word of Mouth in selling a product and its considered very influential factor as most people give importance to what other consumers have to say about the product than advertisement, and even in advertisement Word of Mouth is displayed when Sachin says Boost is the secret of my energytoo, so basically he is using word of mouth communication to sell the product.

3. Another aspect is empowering the youth of India and drive them towards nationalism. Considering what the basis of our India with so many religion, caste, languages, cultures, we are united because of a common notion that we all consider ourselves, Indian first.

4. India is youngest nation of world with 65% of population below 35 tears of age and this is golden opportunity for India to drives this youth for electing leaders on basis of developmental manifesto rather than Vote bank politics.

Its ripe time to use the rationality of this youth of India to bring a change in how politics is done in India.

5. He also talked about going back to nature, going back to our traditions of tress to be worshiped along with God so that we can understand the importance of trees and hence help in controlling Global Warming,

6. He urged NRIs that send America born Indian youth to India so that they can learn about their country and praised how many NRI youth comes to India to do work in education etc. for poor.

Its about calling all Indians around the world to do whatever they can for India, no matter wherever they are.

Ok thanks for the replies

Investment in our huge and young labor force is definitely a great move. And he also seems to put a lot emphasis on tourism and renewable energies.

But what are his plans for the industrial sector and moreover what exactly is his/the BJPs economic belief`???
Free market or socialism ?

she is commenting on a post -poll scenario ,not a electoral alliance ....TRS won recent by-polls by huge margin ,so people rejecting TRS due to bandhs is a wrong claim....

@Koovie Value addition and targeting entire world as market. Increasing skilled local people so that foreign investors employ Indians. Read the case of Hyundai and their plan to replace all or majority of the workers from foreign countries to local people.

Also there is industrial corridor proposal. Not to forget creating a corporate city lije Bangalore, Hyderabad. Its quite a good idea.

Boosting small scale industries and using resources we have but don't know how to utilize.

He doesn't explicitly work for companies or work force, he takes all into account. Read about 5 F planning of his.

It includes Farmers, to traders, to textile industries to fashion industries.

Raw material converted to Finished product by processing and value addition so that we can earn the maximum and create an economic system and sub-system.

Ask for each point separately and I can try to explain what will be the benefits.
