^Why don't you guys volunteer?
P/s: this is not trolling. I am serious.
Excuse me, but I don't understand. I thought that only infantry accepts conscripts.Personally I was conscript into Army and transferred to the Air force of Singapore Arm Forces.
I sustained injury and now I am not so young, it comes out. I got back pain and knee pain. I have served my country.
Excuse me, but I don't understand. I thought that only infantry accepts conscripts.
I personally have no military record. I am overweighted and have bad eyesight. But if there is mobilization, I am ready to sign up.
How long exactly a conscript serve the Singaporean force before he/she can leave? The navy and air force in Singapore Arm forces except conscript, as well as the police, and fire forces.
The elite Singaporeans are even conscript into intelligence unit.

In VN, conscripts get to serve 24 months so they are mostly infantry. Those who perform well can get in the force as regular. I don't know about the navy but VPAir force has some seriously hard physical and psychological tests on those who apply for a pilot or engineer position.
If I am not wrong, Singapore has around 50,000 troops yet has the biggest budget in ASEAN.This thing really piss me off.
The conscript and conscript officers serve 2 years today, while before, conscript serve 2 years and conscript officers serve 2.5 years (no big deal).
The Israeli help build our army but our elites sucks compared to Israeli and have no noble oblige. The Israeli elites set examples by serving 5 years in the army (most elites end up as officers) while soldiers serve 3 years.
And in Israel, those who are good can get promoted. In Singapore, you become officers if you are good in studies (your family is rich and can give you a lot of tuition class before 18 years old).
The salary for our military is good, very very good, to the point that the people resented them as parasite.

But how come conscripts can become officers. I thought only those graduated from military schools or conscripts who become regular and serve the force for a time can be promoted to officers position? With only 2 years conscripts cannot have deep training required for some high-level positions like radar operators, missle operator, etc, right?
I understand how you feel. VNese army too has problems with the elite. They get promotions too much that now, we have too many generals yet not enough soldiers for them to lead (VN has around 400,000 regulars). Back then when we were at war with US, Cam or China, reaching the captain rank was a big deal, and required a huge amount of military achievements as well as a clean history. Now, in peace time, with enough money and relationship, they can be promoted to general rank in no time. Some Israeli conscript become officers as well. They serve 5 years while men serve 3. Our officers and men serve 2 years.
That is the reason our officers do not get respect.
Many irrational things in ALL society occurs because elites want to game the system. The elites can just become soldiers and serve 2 years fcuk off. They want both cake and eat it. They want to serve short period of time instead of 5 years,
So they change the rules.
