What's new

1900: The wife of former French President Paul Doumer throws money at Vietnamese children during the colonial era.

. .
Handing them the coins would have been more intelligent and convenient for all parties.
Indeed,it almost looks like she could be feeding the pigeons in a town square somewhere.

Josep Borrell would no doubt approve of the image, the "civilized" european gardeners helping out the poor less fortunate "jungle" dwellers. 🤮

. . . .

and at the end 1954 at Dien Bien Phu...we cared them, colonialists like this.

Coins are a choking hazard. The white man cared for us. He wouldn't want anything bad for us.

I plead guilty to doing this in Cancun Mexico in the early 1990's during Spring Break. That was pretty much what everybody did on the last day with the local money before getting back on the plane.

Everybody had stacks of mostly paper pesos and what the hell are you going to do with them. So you'd throw it up the air..the street kids were everywhere. Better for them to have it then me throwing it in the bottom of a drawer back home.

Only two ways onto the peninsula and they wouldn't let adults in unless they were cab drivers or workers but kids were an exception.
