14,000 FATA youth to join Pakistan army

A spolit 18 year old from Lahore won't have the stomach to march all day without food etc
The army takes physical and psychological tests before selecting candidates and one must clear both. An un disciplined boy from some mountains may be rejected despite having greater physical endurance. The physical crieteria is same for every one means that an 18 year old from Lahore or FATA will have to achieve a certain level of physical endurance to pass the selection process.... You are not talking about just handing a gun to someone and forcing him to march. There is a complete training process which even makes a weak person strong. I live in a city but I run daily, but according to your logic, some one will be preferred on me just because he is from mountains (even if he has less endurance).

.
Don't put words in my mouth just because you lack basi comprehension skills or just because you are forced by your habit..

A soldier from Balochistan or FATA is as Professional as his counterpart from Punjab,Sindh or GB...

Unlike you I'm not implying that somehow due to some unexplainable and retarded logic the average afghan is a better soldier than a Pakistani!

All those characteristics depends or carry from one person to another.. A martial "Marwat" or a Marri or a Jatt or Kalhoro or Balti etc can be brave or a "buzdil" .. No ethnic group has some sort of Monoply over bravery or valour ... Apart from that it depends on the upbringing aswell... A boy raised by 7 sisters in the protection of his house will most probably be a sissy... Or a man who has never raised a wild animal or a dog (example) will always hesitate when confronted with one..

Technology, tactics and courage ... That's what is nessecary for a good soldier... A red neck with an M-4 and the latest body armour can be taken out even by a 13 year old if the former has a weak heart.. Etc

Funny fact in 71 our troops comanded by Gen Niazi were outnumbered 1:20+ by indian military alone .. Excluding hundreds of thousands of Mukti Bhainis and the physical blockade with the mainland East Pak ... By an ocean and a hostile enemy in between surrounding EP from 3 sides...
You are Jumping around without checking about the context. I said FATA soldiers makes good soldiers and that they should have very large presentation than those from agricultural lands (including Peshawer valley). People from barren and non-agricultural lands have few sources of income so it make no sense that agricultural zamindars and kasht-kars are dominating the army. A question was put forward to me whether FATA will be as good as Punjabi as they have low literacy rate , the conversation then went on another tangent.

People from rugged lands do make better soldiers , it has nothing to do with race and genetics, its environment and life style.

The Mongol conquered countless nations not just because he was brave ... Because of his tactics... Because of his horse and his bow....

The persians were defeated by the Greeks at Thermopylae not because greeks were brave and the persians "buzdil" but because the Greek was not just brave but also a better tactician!

Good to see you have had a change of heart ... Ironic cuz just last year you were given a negative rating for saying the opposite...

Anyways ... I agree ... That is exactly why you will see that it is the Potohar region from where most of Punjabi recruits come from... From the british era to 2015... Why? Because of the lack of fertile soil and opportunities... No wonder there is a common joke that "Potohar mein fouji ugtay haien"..
What are you talking about man?......i am a critic of martial race theory from the very beginning and i never received a negative rating for that. If i was believer in martial race theory, i would have been content with the current composition of Punjabis in army and would not have been making fun of Gorkhas.

Its not race or genetics, its our society and life style which shapes us into warriors. A soldier, on the other hand , doesnt have to be from warrior culture....but a warrior has more appetite for soldiery than a farmer, artisan etc....so being a warrior is a plus point but not the compulsory qualification

.
You people are obsessed with martial race theory. Its not about the race and genetics, those from improvised and non-agricultural lands , whether Pashtun or non-Pashtun, should be 80-90% of the army. You people can earn from zamindari. Punjab has already deprived our belt and Balochistan of economic corridor, so shouldnt be selfish about army. Th purpose of mentioning history, was to say that FATA people are up to the task.
It's kinda ironic that you are accusing others of peddling martial race theory yet in reality it's you yourself whose making pathetic and laughable claims.. A history buff and a doctor like yourself should have been wiser yet you are so childish and shallow...

Please. I am not idiot. I know they are not going to take anybody because they are from "FATA". If the army goes looking for 14,000 lads in FATA I am confident they will select the best from their and train them into quality fighting men. The army needs to start moving farther from it's traditional recruiting area which is Kohat, Mardan, Swabi, Attock and rest of Potohar plateux down to Jhelum. The British did this. Anyway everybody should be supporting this.

Don't forget for every soldier ten other of his family will enjoy indirect benefits from his wages. This sort of thing spurs education, hospitals, roads and brings stability. Also lot othe younger children then go to school to get educayion and aspire to be officers so down the road this opens upward mobility into senior ranks. I noticed they mentioned Cadet College places also. You can see this process already like.

This all helps to create a stable, safe integrated and strong country because everybody has a stake.

Thats why the military has lowered its criteria for under developed areas like FATA,Balochistan & rural sindh (tharparkar etc)

Stamina alone doesn't make you a good soldier... Stamina can actually be increased with training... Mountains aren't the only thing that can build stamina but a punjabi farmer who gets up at dawn goes to irrigate his fields, cutter fodder for animals etc also has stamina... people from Mountainous areas no doubt possess better stamina than the average person from plains though...
But than again training matters Alot.... Capt Karnal Sher Khan NH was from Swabi yet he sacrificed his life with valor in kargil ... Just an example... But no doubt I agree that a person from mountain has more stamina than a person from city or plains...

If you are talking about militias or volunteer forces only then. What you said is not true for a modern, professional and well trained force.

What is the selection process for a sipahi?

He expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the operation thus far. "With this level of determination shown by the army and the people of Pakistan, there is no doubt that we will root out the cancer of terrorism from our country forever," the ISPR statement quoted the army chief as saying.

“Pakistan Army will work hand in glove to garner maximum support for relief and early rehabilitation of the IDPs," he added.

Good news :D
WHAMP ops (Winning Hearts And Minds of People) is part of counter insurgency operations in such areas to wean away the youth from joining the militant ranks. So Shareef is rightly doing what he is supposed to be doing.

However, he says that he "will root out the cancer of terrorism from our country forever." That I think is rather rich coming from the head of an organization that supports the 'good terrorists' like the Haqqani network that has not been touched so far as well the the LeT, JeM etc.

As Hillary Clinton told Pakistan, "you can't keep snakes in your backyard and expect them only to bite your neighbors. Eventually those snakes are going to turn on whoever has them in the backyard." Many terrorists deserting the LeT and joining the TTP is a well known fact. If Shareef doesn't destroy these snakes too, they'll be back to bite him!

I disagree. A man from rugged and improvised lands would be a very good soldier and would be professional after getting training in a professional army. He carries the surplus mental toughness, product of his society

Although my info is some 5 years old but it is like that:
A one mile run( actually it is more than that and the first few are taken in)
20 push ups
20 situps
5 chin ups
Written test
Interview
Merit list

It depends! Because many city folks also transform into badasses after training.

2 days ago i talked to my family and my dad told me that the people of my Tribe came down from Daburi area of Tirah(our origin) valley and had a big gathering with my dad.

They requested my dad to provide land for 1 school for boys and 1 for girls and take up their request to the relevant authorities. when dad told me about it i got so excited, as before these people were very reluctant to education and at one stage they burnt our house too just only coz we wanted to build a school for them, now its the same people and they want schools for their children. it made my dad very happy and promised them that we will provide land for the schools and will take up their request to the higher authorities too.

may be its the right time for us to educate our people in FATA, this claim of some people that they don't want schools is pathetic. yes they might have been reluctant in the past but people of FATA are much more open now and heavy investment in these areas is needed. that is the only way to drag them out of this culture of guns.

People even in rural areas are getting lazy because of agricultural tech which is cheaper by day. Now days its hard to see anyone cutting wheat, at most where cheap tractor are not avaible people from poor comunties do the work for zamindars. Also the fact that zamindari now make small part of one income anyway and cannot be compared to any job.

This is becoming common sight, what used to take days with many people now only take few minutes with 1 tractor.

Also not sure if FATA people will run around upside down mouintains? Sound pointless. Sorry smandri but not everyone in punjab have enough land to depend on it, more people are landless then with lands. Maybe if punjab population was 20x less. Same is hapoened in Fata, population exploded but not enough agricultural land for even basic needs.

Was that a girls school that they burnt?.... a relative of mine used to be a teacher in Wana waziristan in 90s and he told me that Wazirs greatly respect him because he is an ustaad. I have spent few months in Miranshah, , a decade ago, and from what i have observed , there is no opposition to education
