By Web Desk
Published: September 25, 2012
LAHORE: A 13-year-old Pakistani boy, who went missing from Kasur last year, is in an Indian jail, Express News reported on Tuesday.
According to initial details, Kashif was travelling to Lahore with his mother when he got off the bus near Kasur and crossed the border to see India. He entered Hussainiwala, a village in Indian Punjab.
He was arrested by the Indian security forces and was sent to the Child Observation Centre of Fareed Kot jail.
When Kashif did not return, his family members reported his absence to the Mandi Ahmedabad police station.
Express News correspondent Noman Sheikh said that the Indian jail authorities claim they had written letters to the Pakistani authorities in this regard but received no response.
Kashif is a resident of Okara and went missing on September 18, 2011.
While speaking to Express News, social worker Madiha Gohar said she contacted the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) for Kashif’s repatriation on the request of Indian authorities
Gohar said the commission contacted the family and then informed the Pakistani High Commission in India about the development. She said the Pakistani officials in India need to do the required legal work to bring back the boy.

The boy should be identified by pakistani authorities and arrangement should be made for return.

It indeed is criminal that a 13 year old is kept in jail for over a year.

Pakistan did a silly thing by not responding, but why send him to a jail?

Read the article for once. They tried contacting Pakistanis, but there was no response from them. How are they going to return the kid?

As per law, he is illegally in India, and if Pakistan is not taking him back, jail it is...

Child Observation Centre of Fareed Kot jail.....READ!

I mean Wahts the point in keeping a child in detention for over a year when you can directly allow him to go to pakistan even Pakistani ranger soldier was not kept in detentions for more than 2 days and was allowed to go back.Keeping child in detention is criminal on part of GOI and its slave forces.

May be because the pakistani ranger is an adult, with identification, and somebody to receive him from other side.
How do you propose to return the boy, take to the border and push him to other side.

There are many Indians stuck here(and sleeping rough) in UK because they burnt their own passport. All of them have to identified before they can be deported by UK authorities. One cannot simply avoid red tape.
In case of India/pak, too much red tape.

"the Indian jail authorities claim they had written letters to the Pakistani authorities in this regard but received no response"

Perhaps we are thinking Jail in terms of " real jail", this maybe a detention center for juveniles. In the US run way juvi's are taken to a detention center till their parents respond. There are no vacation homes for them to go to plus authorities would be bigger problem if the kids escape and then get caught up in something bad.
