Discussion is not about how much we spend on defence ( we have already done it thousand times in forum) but on why the spending in rural is still dwarfed.

We must admit we have failed in awareness as told by syams ayas, failed to bring black money,curb bureaucrcy and failed in arresting corruption.

Lets focus on how the rural sector can be revived and brought on par reflecting with the not so bad economy of ours.

This discussion has to happen in State level and not at centre level. As they are the one responsible for all the impotency of our rural developement programs.

I will not blame entirely on the rural development programs. Many states provide subsidies for building toilets. I would say it is more of a cultural issue. From my experience, my father had to sit with a relative who was visiting him from his village and talk him into building a toilet as part of couple of lakhs house expansion project of his.

Stupid logic, in a time when Pakistan is getting more and more unstable and China more and more powerful now is not the time to be cutting defence spending. Annual defence spending is only ~2-3% of GDP which is tiny compared to spending on education,poverty alleviation and healthcare.

Come on pal, China is in a very similar postion to India ie large population, relatively high levels of poverty, significant economic growth yet challenging neighborhood and a need to spend money on the military and China spends a similar amount of GDP as India on defence. It is not about robbing anyone, like I said India spends more on the poor than on defence.
