Indian Nationalism has been hijacked by the Hindu right, just as Pakistani Nationalism has been hijacked by the Islamist right. Both are products of the same hate filled rhetoric as the other. Watching this thread, and watching what is coming out of India, I can't lie that as a Pakistani I feel relieved that it isn't just Pakistanis who are capable of extreme jingoistic behaviour, but something that is in built in all south asians, perhaps all humans. But I did warn Indians when I first came on this forum that India is going down the same path as Pakistan when it comes to social cohesion and community relations, unfortunately it seems to be accelerating in to the abyss far faster than I thought it would.

Surely, the Indians who keep an eye on Pakistan could have learnt from us the price of giving in to hate spreading forces and letting them envelope our society? Nothing more to say, as I do believe it is an Internal Indian topic. Just my two cents.

While you're at it , let me take the opportunity of asking the people running this particular site something of extreme interest to them - most of your revenues seem to be from ads generated by organisations in India , who spend their ad revenue based on the traffic generated by this site from users in India .
All this , while inflammatory comments , pics & videos are a dime a dozen against India .Please spare a thought of how the proper authorities in India would view these "infarctions" , especially in the light of current developments in India.

I hate to admit it, but those were prophetic words. Not unsuspected, not unexpected, but sad still when those words actually found their way into actions. That sentence above is one of the most painful that I have had to read in recent times.

Their is little argument besides that those slogans can very well be interpreted as direct incitement of violence against the country ,videos given to police were captured by JNU registrar himself not by any ABVP student.

No, I'm not, and that's why I'm not bothered either. The sorts who raised these slogans during my time at college are pillars of the establishment now. If it hadn't been for the ABVP's rush of testosterone trying to get a foothold inside JNU, if it hadn't been for Rajnath Singh trying to light little fires where it would do the most good, if it hadn't been for a general sense of despondency within the serried ranks wondering what to do instead of doing the economy, this wouldn't have happened. Neither would UoH have happened. As things get worse, expect worse.

Yup I read that, and 2 former solicitor general of India, have on record said that the sloganeering seen in the videos amount to sedition. I don't know what more does the opposition want.

Stop drawing parallels, cause there is none. What ails Pakistan is religious fanaticism, not nationalism. If anything its the nationalism that's holding Pakistan together.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh initially did not recognize the Tricolor as the National Flag of India. The RSS mouthpiece Organiser, in its issue dated 17 July 1947 demanded, in an editorial titled "National Flag" that the Bhagwa Dhwaj (Saffron Flag) be adopted as the National Flag of India.[70] After the Tricolor was adopted as the National Flag of India by the Constituent Assembly of India on 22 July 1947, the RSS mouthpiece Organiser viciously attacked the Tricolor and denigrated its being chosen as the National Flag of India. The 14 August 1947 issue of the Organiser, in an article titled "Mystery behind the Bhagwa Dhwaj", stated

"The people who have come to power by the kick of fate may give in our hands the Tricolor but it never be respected and owned by Hindus.The word three is in itself an evil, and a flag having three colours will certainly produce a very bad psychological effect and is injurious to a country"[71][72]

Further, M.S. Golwalkar, the second sarsanghchalak of the RSS, in an essay titled "Drifting and Drafting" published in his book Bunch of Thoughts, lamented the choice of the Tricolor as the National Flag of India, and compared it to an intellectual vacuum/void. In his words,

"Our leaders have set up a new flag for the country. Why did they do so? It just is a case of drifting and imitating...Ours is an ancient and great nation with a glorious past. Then, had we no flag of our own? had we no national emblem at all these thousands of years? Undoubtedly we had. Then why this utter void, this utter vaccum in our minds"[73][74][75][76]

The RSS hoisted the National Flag of India at its headquarters in Nagpur, on 14th August, 1947 and on the 26th January, 1950 and stopped doing so since then.[77] This issue had always been a source of controversy. In 2001, three activists of Rashtrapremi Yuwa Dal– president Baba Mendhe, and members Ramesh Kalambe and Dilip Chattani — along with others allegedly entered the RSS headquarters in Reshimbagh, Nagpur on 26 January, Republic Day of India and forcibly hoisted the national flag there amid patriotic slogans. They contended that RSS had never before or after independence, ever hoisted the tri-colour in their premises, even on Independence Day and Republic Day. Offences under relevant section of Bombay Police Act and IPC were registered by Police against the trio, resulting in their being jailed. They were released after 11 years in 2013.[78][79] The arrests and the flag-hoisting issue stoked a controversy, which was raised in the Parliament as well.
