Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, ex-ISI chief, decides to retire early

I smell a tonne of fish behind early retirement. I call bull on 'respect personal reasons'. What could be the real reason????? Anyone!!!

I thank the great man for serving Pak nation and Pak land, so diligently and selflessly.
We as nation, will always remain great full to you and your dpt. and colleagues for your services.
May Allah help you succeed in your future challenges.
Salute.

May be wants to join R.S in KSA?

PIA

Well I don't know this as a fact, but a friend of mine who is a devout N leauger shared something on his wall on Facebook about General Rizwan's brother being involved in some kind of corruption case and why judiciary was silent about it and such usual butt-heart bakwas.

While at that time I dismissed it as N leaugi propaganda against army, but this sudden decision by the general makes no sense otherwise. Only God knows best.

Yep here is the news. General's brother Imran Akhtar was involved in corruption by which PIA lost RS 500 Million. He was a retired Air Comodore btw. Bechara Pakistan har taraf se he lutata hai.

Both being PIFFERs maybe you are on to something also may be he know he was / will be super seated ;)

Very sorry to see him being banished to NDU.
If you only knew what an ISI DG is capable of, you wouldn't have written that.
Well after NDU posting, if he doesn't retire, he might get a Corps Commander position, or something similar.
Any details, of the sudden resignation would be appreciated.

Why are people making a big deal out of him retiring early

LoL anyone who has links with the military etc knows why most people retire early.

Anyways, thank you for your service and best of luck for the future.

Really? The officer who

i) Was due to retire early next year
ii) Has no propsect of making four star
iii) No chance of having a further operational command

decides retire early? And thats fishy? Dude, this is not politics.

I can think of half a dozen officers at that or the rank of Maj Gen who cashed it in in a similar position.

Let's not forget the forest for the trees here. The Army is on a roll here. I mean, Ashraf Ghani wants to come to Pakistan with his family. I don't know what magic the COAS worked, but if we can de-escalate in the West, we will be more powerful in the East. Let's not forget Karzai's statement where he says India shouldn't get involved in America's bigger game. The Afghans may be coming to their senses.
It is a very positive development but it is unrelated to the subject of this thread :partay:

At least he can participate in politics FREELY?
Joining PTI?
Will it help you sleep better this night..I mean at least a part of the night?

He is in cusp of being declared by Americans as being closely associated with terrorists and hence this drama of early retirement.

A sick family member is the likely reason. Nuff said.

A Lt. Gen, usually, doesn't take an early retirement and personal or family reasons are the last thing from a soldier who has spent all his life in the military service. Bajwa transferred him from ISI (the most exciting and arguably one of the most powerful position), to NDU (the most dull and powerless job) in the army. So I think he couldn't put up anymore with this discrimination or lack of guts by his boss.

A sick family member is the likely reason. Nuff said.

Some people are raising doubts about how appointments are being managed. I am just reminding them that we are seeing results.
