Turkey's Altay MBT project hit by engine technology transfer issues

We're not in the EU to begin with.

There was a lot of talk back in the day about cooperation with Ukraine in many fields. Could be another option.
Ukraine and Turkey can do wonders in making tanks by working together.

Ukraine is very reliable; it supplies Pakistan with many technical stuff and so far we haven't had a problem with them.

Turkey's plans to build its Altay main battle tank (MBT) have hit a snag after Tümosan, the planned engine provider, cancelled a key technical support contract with Austria's AVL List GmbH.

The cancellation comes after Austria's parliament unanimously adopted a non-binding motion that imposed an arms embargo against Turkey in November 2016. As a result conditions were placed on the transfer of technology to Turkey. Austria made the move in response to Turkey's increasing violation of human rights since the failed military coup attempt in July 2016.

Tümosan has been tasked by the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) with developing a local engine for the Altay MBT. The company brought in Austrian firm AVL List in 2015 to provide technology transfer and support in the development and integration of engines into the Altay tank. Due to the imposition of conditions on technology transfer, Tümosan cancelled the contract with AVL List on 17 January.

"Due to the adoption by the Austrian government [of measures] to insist on export licences that include conditions that interfere in Turkey's domestic politics … the contract as recorded and revenue guarantee given by the company will be cancelled," Tümosan stated in a document published on Turkey's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) on 17 January.

"It has been understood that there will be serious hurdles that (the company) will face in the transfer of technologies concerning critical sub-components because of sanctions being imposed against Turkey recently in particular by the European Union countries," it added.

The statement noted that instead, "Tümosan will go ahead with local suppliers as much as possible in the development of the engines".

They will not, both of them have an industry to grow and both need to sell "their" authentic indegenious "thing"
Yes but just bcuz they are somewhat competitors now doesn't mean they cant work together. Think of it as two competing companies merging into one. Turkey has western technology to offer and Ukraine has eastern(USSR origin). If they both work together they can come up with a beast tank for a relatively good price.

BTW I like ur username. Hannibal Barca is one of my favorite generals.

Good. It will cause delay but in the end we will be at a position where no rely on hypocrat Europeans. The problem surely will be fixed.

There is a deal between Turkey and Ukraine about engines.Anka Technology Üniversity from Turkey and Harkov tecnical University from Ukraine got a deal about tank engine and helicopter engine. There is also a deal for radar Technology.

May be Germany / Pakistan / Turkey can collaborate on Tank Engine

o_O :cheesy: :omghaha::omghaha:

no not germany they are one of the most wicked anti turks nowadays I think greeks are far less anti turkish than germans..

they will never work together and if they do than to worse games and stall the project..

I wonder why the genious ppl of turkey did not work with the s. koreans what is wrong with turks that they dont work with s.korea on many projects..

s.korea had a tank program the kfx and aps and an engine and so on and so on.. why do not work together and benefit from each other..? I just can say IDIOTS and EU lovers.. they would sell their mothers out to EU such freaks..

I can say s.korea is one of the friendliest countries towards turkey.. and I thank them for their support and sincerity towards us.. :)

I would recommend turkey to work with s.korea on future defence projects..

We could work with Ukraine but how modern are their engines? Are all of their engines from soviet times? Do they even have real engineers or are they just producing with soviet know how by following blueprints? What is the advantage of working with them if this is the case.

As a number of NATO, still has to suffer sanction from its 'ally'. Turkey can ask for Ukraine 6TD-3 disel engine.

Turkey shall quit Nato, cause it doesn't make sense anymore to stay within.

Most important problem of new engine is durability which most countries lacks. We are not as developed as GERMANY, Russia,USA ,England etc. at metalurgy sectors.
But Ukraine ahead of us.We can designe a new engine with our knowledge but for production we need help. I also dont know Ukraine Technology is enoughfor us let's hope soo.
