Even the Chief of the mission has denied it, the usual non issue being drummed up:

So we will be facing Belgium for the quarter finals! will be a real test but these things done come easy.

Well like gibbs said, he will of course deny it. I dont have anything to go on to commit to either side...i.e its a non-issue for me since it seems to have been resolved anyway and we have no strong evidence to base anything on.

Slow news day like I said.

Yes,our system is failing us & continues to do so. THis is a point which I would answer in a very very long post which I don't feel like doing.

Frankly speaking when it comes to education...

Unfortunately most Indians don't care about such contests-Olymiads & worldskills. Their only concern from 8th class to 12th class is to get into a good college in Engineering(the elite IITs by writing JEE) or in Medical(AIIMS). Those who are interested in sciences have to work more harder to get into IISC(Indian institute of science). They just don't have the time for these major events/

In some cases, I have seen the only students who care heavily about the Olympiads are those who wish to go & study abroad -_- . Though there are many who want to write out, they lack the time to prepare for it.

And at the basic level, our education system isn't good at all. & our Ministers & bureaucrats decided to act like ostriches & run away from PISA when they saw how terrible our performance was ;instead of staying & rectifying it.
& they have done nothing to improve our standards of learning & learnt nothing from the results. On the contrary I dare say they have made it worse by passing an act called Right to Education(Don;t go by the name).

Our people have got the talent & the brains+hardwork to do it!! They just need the time, opportunity & the reasons/dedication to do well in this competition & then they will be able to excel & rise in such contests.

& here I reproduce an old post I made a very long time ago on why India doesn't do well in sports usually & how much suffering our sportsman & woman have to go through:-
It;s on this page,do read it

The present govt. truly cares & wants to do a good job at encouraging sports in India & wants to increase funding in this sector & encourage atheletes. But such things take a lot of time & lethargy at the local levels is still to be targetted

Yep International military games is something we don't care much about.

A really insightful post....do you really live in Ecuador?

Thanks for the opinion.

Nope.....

I just noted my flag is wrong, sorry for that I'll change it.

You are the one thats making the case someone in sports ministry is a scum..wronll implying that A and B are the same set of people which has not been established anywhere.

I said from the beginning it is wrong without gathering the full facts first....which have not quite settled and been made clear. Especially seeing how sports minister helped this gymnast girl and the physio has now arrived and a general physio was present even when the current personal one wasnt....something both of you never cared to mention and made it sound like she was all alone and completely unsupported.

So you definitely make it political if you give such vague and silly statements which no one would see from either of you if beautiful scamgress or aaptards were running the show and doing a 10 times worse job with their "officers" like they have done multiple times in the past (not to mention ministers going just for unrelated tourism rather than helping the athletes like this minister at least made an effort to do)...and now you accuse me of shifting goal posts? Ok whatever floats your boat.

You and prometheus have basically taken a good thread and turned it into some political stunt because of some officers and ministers you are calling "scums" and "idiots". Talk about your hate of bureaucracy, ministers or whatever in the indian political forum, not here please.

Please do not quote me or respond to me in this thread anymore. Thanks.

This olympics has not been organised well at all....so I cannot base it on hearsay from one side alone if there was a cause for misunderstanding in the first place...I mean in the properly organised olympics in developed countries....has there really been any such precedent before for this sort of thing?

I mean there have been plenty of problems already with english translation volunteers among other things:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/brazil-earns-mixed-scores-for-rio-games-1470934919

Who knows what really happened is what I'm saying.

There might be a cultural thing at play here since the Brazilians aren't exactly the politest people:

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-olympics-rio-brazil-fans-idUSKCN10I0SZ

I mean I saw them booing an american boxer just because he is american....so who knows what their organisation officials are like....some could very well be just as rude as well. Who really knows for sure.

you are the one making silly statement.. Yes they are very much corrupted... every one aware of that.. prove me wrong.... most of these officers corrupted.. don't give damn about athletes requests or needs... if you live in denial mode, i can't do anything..

why you are so insecure? am i blaming SAI or the govt ?

In all fairness to officials, they had denied requests like those of Dipa to all other sportsmen heading for the Olympics too. While there is an Indian physio at the Games, he is supposed to attend to all athletes and may or may not be familiar with every sportsman or sportswoman’s individual requirements!

people like you, who always link every thing to govt.. how pity, did you even bothered to read my post? Gymnastics is something which can break athletes bones and cause major injuries.. get over your insecure feelings, I didn't even talked about sports ministry... i know you are hard core fan of BJP...

he must be fan of vijay goel ji.........chill..............no need to get upset

Typical South Asian mentality and it's third world politicians.. Nobody really care for the reputation on the nation

he is the new mascot of Indian team..............but a trebble one.......looking at medals india has won.............maybe he is missing a tail

Boxing maybe India's only hope to win a medal. Best wish to India!

boxing .......maybe wrestling too......small hope from Tennis...........no other hope..........shooters are one which gets a medal..........this time they drew a blank

I read the link, and you are one of few Indian members who actually try to look into the matter more seriously than regular rhetoric from defensive Indian members. Thanks!

But the highlighted part is a standard answer we hear from Indian members here, and it is like "yeah, we are not good at it, because we don't care" or "Going into a good college IS the uttermost goal for young people and parents alike, so we don't care anything else". But even the best of Indian universities are not competitive at all in the world stage, not to mention that 80% of engineers produced in Indian colleges are "unemployable". So what exactly Indian is good at? Spelling Bees?

If the sports is a luxury for India at this time, India at least should spend lot more on the primary and vocation educations, rather than on fancy state-of art military toys. But the percentage of GDP allocated for primary education is actually shrinking in 2016-2017 union budget. I am afraid this low-level cycle will continue for some time to come until some dramatic change takes place. To be honest, I don't see it in current Modi government, the Savior in many's eyes.

that guy is nut case. i was referring about SAI officers. suddenly he jumped in... started advocating on behalf of BJP ... lol... I referred to Hayrana minister.. who is talking about participants from his state...Why not About Every Indian athletes... nothing wrong in my post.. why do we need to think about South north, Haryanvi or Andhra... they are representing to entire nation...

I guess wrestling, tennis, Boxing and gymnastics ( slim chances but lets hope best).. If Susheel been to Rio... i can be sure but yadav..

Ok guys, one more big event coming up.. Sania Mirja & Rohan Bopanna VS USA mixed doubles.. Lets pray, at least one medal this time.. :yahoo::yahoo:

Plus today Lalita Babar from 3000 km stepple chase, broke national record and qualified for the finals, she will race on Independence Day..:victory::victory:

Well foreign based Indians in US also join their math olympiad teams and so on. They get many opportunities there so its reflective of what a higher per capita environment will produce in India down the road at some level. I also remember the Indian-origin gymnast Rohini Bhardwaj getting some medals in competitions too.....and now our first India flag gymnast this year is proving that even against the odds, sometimes things line up even in India more and more these days....hopefully the momentum is built up in the long term.

Like @Darmashkian has explained the raw talent in India is not an issue, it is the way the channel in high school etc is currently directed (towards rote-based entrance exams in general and tough competitive JEE for STEM) that leaves little chance of any of them going for such contests so the pool is greatly reduced.

But the percentage of GDP allocated for primary education is actually shrinking in 2016-2017 union budget.

Overall percentage spent on education is actually increasing. I can post the UNESCO report but I got to find it again. Why it dropped in union budget was because greater amount of spending was given to local state budgets. Total spending both in absolute terms and % term of GDP is increasing over time in the long run....especially if one includes raw consumption of education in % term compared to just the govt component of it (since private schools are becoming more and more popular and their quality is generally higher too since they are more in tune with what people want for their kids and what the job market is like).

As a nation with 1.3 billion, India sure has lots of talent people, but you guys are not competitive at all in any world competition event, be it Olympic, PISA, Math Olympiad, WorldSkills, Competitive Coding, etc. You pride your military as one of the strongest in the world, but India is nowhere to be seen in International Military Games finals currently held in Russia. Your system is failing your people. Something needs to be done.
Sir we have won cricket world cup 2 times, we have 8 gold medals in olympics(no other country has ever achieved it yet), Kabaddi champions, Chess, in archery(we are currently way ahead China :agree:, but koreans are damn good:sick:), we are giving China a good competition in Badminton as well, etc we might not have developed athletes who wins gold at olympics, but we have definitely produced some good competitive athletes who give others run for their money.

Plus we are growing at much faster pace now, so may be 2-3 Olympics from now you will see us in top 5.

I have no doubt about the talent of Indian people, and it is your system that sucks. Sorry if what I said sounded offensive.

I sincerely hope that Indian athletes win some medals at Rio for 1.3 billion people, any color, just don't let it be zero. If Vietnam and Philippine can win medals, there is no excuse for India not to win anything.

Good to know the actual spending on primary education is increasing, and the execution on local level should follow through. I have read some time ago that many primary school teachers did not show up for work on regular basis. I hope Modi government can address this problem at least, and that will be a concrete improvement.

Why do you guys(Chinese and Pakistani) have to suggest us that we should not be spending on military?Should a sheep consider the advice of a wolf?Would you warn us before repeating another 1962?Or would the Pakistani warn us before sending the jihadist to do another Mumbai.

We suck in many things and we are trying to improve it.Shed your crocodile tears elsewhere.
