Japan’s media say the country’s Mitsubishi Aircraft is negotiating with Iran to provide the country with its regional passenger jets that are currently under development.

The Nikki newspaper says in a report that Mitsubishi Aircraft – the aviation arm of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries - began market surveys into Iran last September, four months before the U.S. lifted sanctions.

The company has been negotiating over jet sales with Iran’s flag carrier Iran Air and Iran Aseman Airlines, as well as the country's aviation authorities.

Iran Air is weighing purchasing 80 70-seat Mitsubishi Regional Jets and using them for domestic routes, Nikki added. Executives from both sides also discussed a possible deal last month during the International Air Transport Association conference in Dublin.

The report added that Mitsubishi is trying to use the help of the Japanese government over the purchase and wants to make use of state-backed financing.

Iranian airliner Iran Air and Boeing reached a memorandum of agreement in June, under which a total of 80 aircraft will be sold to Iran and a further 29 will be leased with Boeing's support as part of a $25 billion contract.

Meanwhile, Boeing’s European rival Airbus is also awaiting Washington’s approval of an agreement with Tehran over the purchase of 118 planes, worth over $27 billion.

The deals with Boeing and Airbus came after aircraft sanctions against Tehran were lifted under a landmark nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of nations—the US, Russia, France, Britain, China and Germany—reached in July last year.

What happened to the sukhoi superjet deal?,at least with that you had the likelihood of local assembly and production of components in iran plus a cheap price and not huge amounts of western supplied components,by comparison the japanese plane is going to be much more expensive with lots of western components and no local production. This deal is just like the boeing one it makes absolutely no sense from either an economic or strategic perspective, wtf is rouhani and co thinking?.

Hi Fafnir. I think along the same lines as you in this issue. SSJ100 would have been better for domestic industry...

Do you know what happened to IMF?

I`m not sure what happened to IMF,I wonder if it had possibly been hacked as I received email notification from IMF that I had supposedly forgotten my PW when I had made no such request and a short time after that the site went down....so who knows, anyway I got sick of waiting for it to come back up and decided to sign up here

Americans cheated once again. no money was returned. so you can forget all of "we buy this, we buy that".
disappointed from Airbus and Boeing they are going after Mitsubishi, and probably to pressure on the other two.

Iran sold out Russia and China, and keep buying from SK and Japan.

Both are lapdog nations for the US, People in Iran keep bashing Chinese , and millions Chinese people known what the true face from Iran right now .China refused Iran to Join SCO recently !!!

Americans cheated once again isn't Russia and China 's business anymore, you are on your own now !

Oh!?,do you mean the same china and russia who went along with western sanctions against iran even tho it cost them billions in lost trade?,please spare us your pathetic phony indignation if anyone has the right to cop an attitude its iran especially with china pulling that stupid sh!t at the sco,did it ever occur to you that maybe if china had been a loyal friend and partner to iran and told the west to stick its sanctions that iranians might have a much better impression of china and the chinese today?,if china was smart it would be looking to repair its relationship with iran and try and recoup economically some of what it so stupidly threw away to please its "good friends" in the west not play stupid games with things like the sco.The simple fact of the matter is that iran has always been on its own,it learned that lesson a long time ago.

Why don't you guys 1st sell us your J-11, J-16 and J-20 fighter jets then we can talk about who sold how out!!

China has refused to sell Iran fighter jets that we badly needed and now you wanna talk about us selling you out!!

China could have easily sold Iran 100's of fighters but they were afraid of what U.S. may do!
I don't think China has yet to realize how much power it truly has

China is practically the only country in the world that shouldn't be afraid of U.S. Sanctions! China is the only country in the world who could have responded to U.S. sanctions with sanctions of it's own who would have devastated U.s. economy

Even right now it's China who is blocking Iran's bid for SCO

China needs to grow some b.......

Iran's import from China has doubled in the past 3 years. Chinese products have filled our market and literally are destroying our domestic production lines, so keep your BS to yourself.
and what china did in SCO is a sign of how trustworthy you are.

There are no friends in geo politics. Even China and even more so Russia back stabbed Iran several times in its dealing with the WEST for its own interests

Means you don't know how deep the economic and trade ties between China and the U S/E U is. Lool
You think China can survive and thrive the way it has been doing these past 4decades since it opened up to the West if it cut off all trade and relations with the WEST? Lool. Seems you don't know what you are talking about. The Chinese and East Asians are pragmatic people not delusional ideologist Iike some Islamic regimes in the middle East since they will cooperate with anybody as far as it serves their interests and makes them prosper. That's how Mature/smart powers behave:)

Every economical trade is bilateral. So, when China is dependent on exporting its products to west, at the same time, west is also dependent on cheap Chinese products to supply their people's demands. If China really wanted to support Iran, west would not cause a huge damage to its own economy by retaliating to China. Unlike what you said, Chinese are short-sighted and don't have courage because they still see West(Whites/Japanese) as their masters. Obviously, It's not called being "Pragmatic".

You must be very naive you think China cut off trade relations with the west will have no effect on their economy and growth. Lol. The west will be affected in the short term(by the timewe adjust and move our factories frm China to other developing countries), but the Chinese economy will be battered for the foreseeable future, the west still controls the world's economy, core technologies, politics, diplomacy, international relations etc. Never forget that dude.
