The UAE had expressed interest in the aircraft but the number of planes under consideration was not revealed.

Russia is negotiating with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) possible deliveries of Sukhoi Su-35 fighters, Russia’s state technologies corporation Rostec head Sergey Chemezov said Sunday.

Indonesia to Purchase Russian Su-35 Fighters, Construct Service Centers
DUBAI (Sputnik) – On November 8-12, Russia is presenting its aircraft and air defense systems at the Dubai Airshow in the UAE.

“Su-35 presentation here [at the airshow] is very good, and we are currently engaged in negotiations with the [United Arab] Emirates about the delivery of these aircraft,” Chemezov told journalists.

Earlier in the day, head of Rostec's International Cooperation Department Viktor Kladov told RIA Novosti that the UAE expressed its interest in the aircraft, however the sides have not discussed the number of Su-35 that could be delivered to Abu Dhabi.

The Su-35 fighter (NATO reporting name Flanker-E) jet is an upgraded version of the Su-27 multirole fighter. In 2013, it was first introduced to a foreign audience in Paris.

Russian arms manufacturers have been participating in the Dubai Airshow since 1993. The exhibition was first held in 1986 and has been held every two years since 1989.

Yes it is being considered. There is a high probability that it could go through, simply because of the difference in doctrine between the east and west. Russia doesn't question you, who you bombed and why. Whereas, even after you buy something from the west, they have issues of how you use it.

Thanks. I thought you guys would never go the Russian way when it comes to fighter jets. Guess I was wrong.

Which aircraft they are likely to replace? Mirage 2000-9?

To be honest, I don't think it will happen. But that's my opinion. This is just talk, like previous airshows, not a contract. Russian aircrafts in particular have low availability & reliability rates, besides being maintenance hogs. How this has changed is yet to be seen.

The Mirage 2000-9 was being evaluated for upgrades, to keep it relevant for the next decade and a half. It wont be replaced, for now.

Me too , and if case this happened a lot of UAE military tactics and infrastructure will change a lot to acquire the russian planes i still think UAE will go for the Rafale

very different planes and different roles the Su-35 can't replace the M2k-9

See we know that , and that statement casts a shadow on military equipment worth billions upon billions of dollars from Oman to Morocco.

Anyway, there is still good time; for all of us to get together and buy full production lines with ToT instead of 100 - 200 planes.

Imagine the weight we all purchased together !

Sure they are. I was trying to figure out if Emirate is looking to replace a system or are they expanding their air force? Expanding the size would indicate UAE sees greater challenges to its security in future. Could be a concern for them given the changes in region.

Well we do operate certain Russian systems like the Pantsir, BMP-3 etc, but nothing in the air. We have a fairly good idea, where we will end up with Russian hardware.

On the Rafale we want a certain degree of customization, to insure what we buy stays relevant for at least a decade, if not more. It needs to address our perceived threats not only today, but 10~15yrs down the road. No point in buying something today and when it is delivered two years down the road it is already half-obsolete / fully-obsolete.

lets see...... the eurofighter typhoon the Dassault rafale or the su-35. what would you pick ? easy choice Typhoon all the way.

Actually Typhoon is still suffering from manufacturing defects and other technical issues, which should have been sorted out long time ago. Neither is it's EW suite on par with Spectra.. On the other hand, it's engine has much more potential than the M88 (with its current engine intake.)

no i meant having an air superiority jet will change your air force tactics and will need to build new infrastructure on land plus uae is going to wait a lil bit if they need it as the SU-35 production line is very busy , anyway lets see what UAE will settle down for , i hope you will pick the best choice for your needs

let me educate you. the defect is that there is holes in the fuselage which just so happen to be made in germany. the uk, saudi arabia, spain, italy and eventually oman are resuming deliveries its just the germans who are refusing deliveries. the m88 is a tiny engine like the f404.the ej-200 is getting a stage 2 upgrade so its producing 120kn wet.
the rafale is wining orders simply due to it influence and its role in the middle east whist we are doing nothing. did you know qatar has not even ordered the rafale yet? they just signed a piece of paper saying they will take 24 jets, they have not made a deposit to activate the contract which the government will honour and the manufacture will take.

the su-35 is not ad advanced as the rafale or the typhoon and qatar has the money to buy what ever it wants. so it will go for the best.(the Typhoon)

Yes Qatar is seriously reconsidering the Rafale, but it will not go for the EF because of not only it's unreliability, but it's American components as well. This is where EF messed up very badly. IF One were to buy an a/c, why buy one with US components? Why NOT buy an American one?

Don't be surprised if in the end you see the latest version of the F-15 / F16, flying with Qatar and possibly other GCC states.
