India begins work on $2 Billion Exascale Supercomputer for Space & Meteorological Applications

Be positive, don't become like another Arundati Roy. :-)

I refuse to be a fool.
U seem to be lacking knowledge about where india stands in processors right now.

Let me help you------zilch:coffee:

examples and elaboration, please...

Example:

When a Social scientist comes up with mountain of raw data of which he could not make any sense, he runs ANOVA 1-way or ANOVA 2-way analysis of his data to find correlation between two or more variables.

When he wants to find degree of distribution, he runs a t-Test on his data.

In science, whole simulation field runs on mathematical models.

mathematics is useful only in application, and that too minimized... there is no need to have an entire category of people called "mathematicians"... mathematics cannot be a science by itself... rules change in mathematics when better understanding in another field arrives... same case with grammer.
You're a idiot of highest order if you think m mathematics is useless.
Mathematics is the base of all things physical and a constant of all energies. All the universe can be explained by mathematics. For a person who have never gone past class 12 or class 10 mathematics,I do not expect you to understand the wonders of 3 body problems and the excitement of solving a equation of vibrating strings but please don't go condescending the amalgamation of pure art and science that is Mathematics.

Thats statistics...

I many field the advances can be made with a good supercomputer.. But in case of India I am skeptical, whether this would be economic and used in efficient way.. or perhaps it is a overkill.. This supercomputer was rumored about one and half year back.. But as someone pointed out that, 132 exaflop supercomputer would be overkill and whether we would be able to power it.. The most critical thing would be cooling of this system...

They can't suddenly come up with a world beating processor in 6 years,,thats why

But they are ahead of advanced nations like Russia/Canada and many others.
Russia included!
So your line of thinking is flawed.

Nobody could have a career in any Science, pure or Social, if he is not good in mathematics.

i said "mathematicians", not "mathematics"... i said... (a). there cannot be a separate bunch of "experts" called mathematics, (b). usage of mathematics must be minimized to what seems natural, (c). mathematics is not an end in itself, (d). mathematics cannot predict with precision in any dynamic system ( like weather or society ).

Are you serious ?!

very.

Since we are on a defence forum, this is the best example one can find

Petr Ufimtsev - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petr Ufimtsev was a Soviet physicist and mathematician who developed equations for predicting the reflection of electromagnetic waves from simple two-dimensional shapes.

This eventually has the following practical application today-

Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

wait, please... i will formulate an answer.

what does great grand mathematical modeller, "anova", say about ( in context of india )...

(a). 69 people dying of hunger in that tea planatation.
(b). dogs killing humans all over india yet being given highest respect.
(c). "honor killing".
(d). india being declared "suicide capital of world", officially.
(e). oppressions by money.
(f). highest number of male population in the world and in history... at least 850 million.

All the universe can be explained by mathematics.

truly??

Couldn't have put it better myself. Mathematics is the language of the universe.

It amazes me how some people don't even know what they don't know. The more knowledge you gain the more you realise you don't know.

Did you just say mathematicians or mathematics should be 'minimized' to some level....You're a MORON. You do not deserve to be in our company.

But Canada makes NASA/USA shuttle's (world famous) cargo bay hydraulic arm...why?

"canadarm" project is of real use... a "supercomputer" which runs mathematical models has no real universe usage.

the "candarm" machinery also uses the "qnx neutrino" operating system, the best os in the world... and written in early 1980's by two canadian civilians ( who didn't have indian government funding ) who then started a private company called "qnx software systems" which is presently owned by blackberry.

it takes a simple ordinary computer to write the best operating system... it takes a small team to design a really innovative microprocessor... i am involved in such a project... that too a clock-less processor.

the future of processors is clock-less, so this indian government plan of using "flops" ( clocked operations ) as measure of superiority is simply inferior.

and what is your exalted company, my enlightened friend??

For the love of God can we all just congratulate that India is self-reliant in building of supercomputers?

One idiot here has a problem with mathematics and any field of scientific study where India invests money. Another has a problem with people who do not understand mathematics and both are trying to show off their superiority here. You two did not build the super-computer and it is doubtful you can ever make anything other than a boisterous ego. So for a change why don't we all sit back and applaud the Indian scientists who have contributed something to the country.

Your obsession with processors is WEIRD man. It's like the only thing that matters to you.
